I've gone and ruined it!

Spent a happy couple of hours this morning fitting a hideous Givi Monorack to the bike so I can lug around an almost-equally hideous 52L suitcse. While I was at it I fitted the black slightly-tall flip screen too, to complete the effect. When I stood back, I realised that my svelte and elegant S had morphed into some sort of horrible commuting goose.

PS > Lazer pipes and chip should arrive tomorrow, and my belly-pan is going in for painting. I decided to go for the anti-stone-chip lacquer, and got the paint code matched by Glasurit (I think?) - Marrakech Red II. When they are both fitted, that should restore the commuter vs. sporty balance nicely

how much does it cost to get a belly pan painted?

Marrakesh Red II, with anti-stone-chip lacquer in proper baked 2-pack is going to cost me £70-80. I got quotes from 2 places in London, one in London Bridge area and another very close to Rotherhithe Tunnel. The clincher is that I have seen work done by the latter before, and he was more than willing to show me round the paintshop, explaining how it will all work. Not looking at too much lead-time either. It's a little on the expensive side because of the lacquer - not many bits of bodywork get a battering as much as a belly pan on a bike. Also,, there isn't a volume or convenience discount because not much paint will be mixed for it

When it is all clean and shiny and it has stainless fasteners fitted and a stealth number plate holder and the race pipes and cat eliminator and bellypan and LED tail-light and so on - I might take another pic.

God, I love bikes you can tinker / meddle (delete as appropriate) with.

I bet that topbox knocks a few mph off the top speed

You'll need all those other 'enhancements' to gain the speed back

And did'nt anyone ever tell you not to put your helmet on your mirror. You'll damage the shock absorbing lining don't you know

There was once a couple of little AVI's that Paul uploaded of Richard (Gromit) and Julian freestyling on Mz's up at the Ace( very funny they are too and worthy of a repost if they aren't around on here somewhere)....I was on my silver/yellow S (in the background)complete with nasty top box and muffs......so I'm afriad you will have to work a little harder to ruin it!

I am aiming for a really nice pimped SS ... but with a topbox. Seriously, I cannot live without one, if only to lug around my comically big chain!

I reckon that with box and touring cases, there would be more storage space on the bike than I have in my flat. Certainly plenty to go on a world tour.

I am even considering flogging the boxes and racks to recoup some cashola. I can use a topbox and a patagonia roll on the pillion seat when I go on holiday - then I can do my death-race (VDCR) filtering in Paris, Madrid, Milan, Sarajevo, Istanbul....

PS > Learnt another sweet thing about the bike this morning - one-up it will pull along sweetly in 2nd ... at tickover. Nice!

you may want to add a fender extender to that list by the look of it
