Blistering Engine Cover - advice sought

Chaps,

Apologies if this subject has already been covered, but I've got a mint '05 SS with 4.5k miles which has barely seen rain, yet the silver-painted engine cover (directly behind the front wheel) is starting to blister already:angry5:

Anybody claimed for this under warranty or tried carbon fibre covers like the one on Fleabay below?

Any advice on dealing with this before it gets worse would be appreciated.

I'd talk to BMW first and see what they say,the worsed that can happen is that they tell you to piss off!!.

Got to be worth a try methinks. I'll pay them a visit next time I get a day off. You'd expect better from a so-called premium brand wouldn't you?

Anybody attempted repairs or covers?

I've got a carbon fibre cover waiting to be fitted. If you email the chap he will do a boxertix price of £30 to include p and p. I haven't fitted it yet as I need to find the time to remove the bubbling and clean the area to stick it on but held against the front of the engine it looks good

Proper paint (the carcinogenic sort) is the only long term answer - water based paints are for pussies (copywrite Mr Bailey)

Thanks Henry - apparently they can be a bugger to fit. Not sure about their longevity either

I've has two replaced under warranty on the GS. Get it in to your dealer and have a brand spanker fitted before the warranty runs out!

You should sell a tenplate at a tenner a time!!! when that guy first started i checked what he'd been buying on e-bay, carbon roll cost him a tenner,he gets either 3 or 4 out of a sheet!!!.

And when you've got your new engine cover fitted, install a Fenda Extenda and don't forget to buy some of that wonderful ACF-50.

with this weather it may be a while before I fit it, if anyone calls in with their tracing paper and pencil then they can doodle away!

Warranty replacement job as said. Also as said real paint will resolve it properly and certainly agree with the extender.

But your mileage !!!!!

Thanks chaps. Warranty's valid until Spring 2007, so a claim will be going in soon and a fender extender going on soon afterwards

Ps Riding season's a bit short up this way, hence the lowish mileage! (It's grim up North etc). I did manage to get her to the TT this year, though. It was such a hoot I was forced to book up for 2007 aswell
