BMW PANNIERS (and locks)

Post by MadDogMcQ »

Just bought a pair of panniers for my R1100S. Fitted them no prob, BUT then came the lock-building!!

First lock went together no problem. Had to adjust a few tumblers to get good alignment, but its not really difficult is it? Put it in the pannier - Bingo!!

Next one - same procedure - put it in the pannier and it works a treat BUT the key won't come out

ANY IDEAS???

The key will not come out in ANY position. It works perfectly well in terms of locking the pannier, but it just refuses to come out of the barrel.

Hi,
Stating the obvious, if the key will rotate the barrel, rotate to align the removal pin hole at the base and remove the barrel, I think if you rotate it 180 degrees before you replace then it should work, thats providing the plates are matched correctly.
Good luck

At first, I couldn't find the hole to allow removal of the barrel, but then I found a website by a guy called "Ebbo" and he has a pictorial guide to stripping the locks down and one of the pix (below) showed that the hole was hidden below the 2nd handle. Result!! Lock now sorted. 1 key for ignition and panniers!

Cool..

For the unenlightened (ie. me) could you explain or post pics of how you tweak the locks to your keys... I've been carrying around 2 keys for 2 years with the steadfast intention of sorting this out..

I thought you would have to pay a dealer change the locks but if you can adjust/alter the barrels yourself i would like to know how. Can you post the instructions please?

I think that the instructions are over on the UKGSer site. Look under other links and then technical information, Should find it there.
