Bocking's Beemer'd-up Again

Post by BockingBandit »

Just a quick 'Thanks' to veryone from the site who have helped me to get the 1100S back on the road. MOT on Monday and the Hire-Bike can return to sender.
Oh ,.. and Paul, .. I havn't forgotten, .. I've just been a little busy with large bits of BMW internals.

Nigel, .. no photo sorry mate. But,.. engineers say that bike was probably running hot, piston/rings 'nipped' in the barrel, broke and shot through the side of the piston.

I can say that at the time I knew i was ready to change the air filter and not sure if relavent, but after the seizure, I noticed that the right side vaccum take-off cap was mising. Bike had plenty of oil etc, changed regularly filter and oil.

I wasn't thrashing it at the time, but i have done a few trackdays on it.

Hi geoff
The missing nipple of the throttle body seems like the culprit if it is of the same side as the wrecked barrel and piston. An air leak there would cause hotspots(weak mixture)in that side of the engine.Usually the valves get burned ,but i suppose the weakest part fails first. Was there lots of backfiring before the bike expireed?
Glad your up and running again.
