R1200s hard luggage spotted at NEC

Post by Paul »

Bugger. Having bought an F800S because there is no pannier option for the "sport sport sport" R1200S, I spotted this at the NEC today:

To add the panniers, a new metal post is added, sticking out of the previously unblemished rear fairing panel:

... and some extra tubing added under the frame to mount the bottom of the pannier on:

the guy I spoke to on the stand couldn't find a key to take the pannier off, so I could clearly see how the the mounting points attached to the bike...

Alledgedly, this will be available as an option from BMW in the spring. So what happened to Sport Sport Sport?

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

This is the Sport Sport Sport (Tourer) package.....

Are you sure the guy on the stand couldn't find the key? From what your photo's show he might just have been making excuses to avoid having to show you the ugly mounting arrangement.

Looking at the pannier specific bolt fixing points incorparated into the rear pillion foot rest carrier me thinks that they always intended to provide a hard luggage option :?

Do I recall that BMW said they would definately not be offering a hard luggage option as this is (was) a pure sports, sports, sports bike??

Still.....all you chaps that have ruled out buying an R1200S because it doesn't have a luggage option will have to come up with another excuse

...my ideas also, because these panniers are on a pre-production R12S...

...BTW ; the extra tubing is attached to the license plate holder / exhaust...
...no posibilities anymore in changing the exhaust / plate holder in combination with the extra tubing...

Like most BMW designs it's build it quick and get it out on the market.

Only after hearing buyers and potential buyers comments do they do a fix.

This fix looks crap as did the original fix for the GS for the top box mounting brackets, if you wanted a BMW top box the rear section of the cowl over the rear lamp had to have 2 semi circles filled into it, Oh yes I'm f###in sure on a 10K bike.

Now they come with the cowl modified and the semi circular cut outs moulded in.

So I am sure that in the near future the luggage for the sports sport will be somewhat different.

Actually I quite like it  Never have been a great fan of the 1100S luggage rails so anything that looks better than that has to be an improvement IMO.

It just makes the Baboon's arse look like the Baboon's hips are huge.
What a lash up. Pure pants.
You guys really trading in your 1100s for this? I just can't see the attraction myself, considering how good the 1100 looks and goes.
