R1100S 50K miles and getting ratty

Post by izustu »

Hi folks,

What do you guys recomend regards rear indicators. The orignals are starting to look very tried. I'm getting fed up plastic welding the lugs, I've replaced the screws with nuts and bolts and they still look rather floppy! (oh err mrs)

Failing that, if somebody has some fresher examples knocking about maybe I can take them off your hands.

Simon

Why not get one of those 'tail-tidys' from fleabay? They give indicators, tail light and number plate mount on an ally bracket which replaces the original plastic. Best bit is the indicators are more tucked in, dont snag so easy when splitting traffic!
Oyster. 1999 R1100S. Almost original.

Izustu,

There is a replacable inner arm in each indicator, which is designed to fail if you bash your indicator. The replacements cost in the region of £3 - £4 a side. They take about 5 minutes to replace per side and restore your indicators to their original factory fitted state of proud erectness

Go to your local friendly BMW dealer and buy yourself 3 of these marvels (always a good idea to have a spare), help yourself to some "free" coffee, watch their plasma screen and sit on some bikes. Pretend you're in Starbucks and after 2 or 3 coffees you are financially up on the deal

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Paul, I like your style! :D

I feel a trip to SLM on the cards. The tail tidy does look neat, but I'm skint at the moment.

Thanks every one for your replies.

Simon you can replace just the mounting shaft wihtout replacing the whole indicator. They're about £4 IIRC. That's hat I did on mine and they were as good as they ever were after that. :?
