Chips.

Post by leasky »

Do all "Chips" fit all bikes despite age? There is one on Flea-bay at present which states the date Sept 2000 onwards. My bike is May 2000. Will it be compatable? It is for an R1100s.

All answers on a postcard please...........

Many thanks,

Leasky.

It all depends on the chip as different years of bikes have different Motronic boxes, if I am not mistaken.

There's two, pre and post two thousand and i'm not sure if the 4 plug is different as well.

Will it be compatable? i doubt it,plus the fact what make of chip it is.

2-spark chips are indeed different.

The very first batch of 1100S's (ie late '98 ones) are also different, although extremely rare. Apparently they utilised a slightly different ECU/Motronic thingy aswell.

So...

One could say there are 4 different chips.

Chips are eating!!!,put an Induct on with SJ filter and run with a stock chip, when you can afford it put a PC on,and have it set up on a rolling road, assuming you've got a decent pipe on it.

That'll be the one I started the bidding on then! Thanks

Actually since mine is a 2000-registered, Sept '98 build (as best as I can make out :? ) I don't think this will fit anyway. Though if it hadn't (had I won), I would just resell it. Looks like any other pic of a Moronic box though - anyone got part/build numbers to identify early/late ones. Oh, just remembered the service receipts list a new Motronic at some ridiculous rate.

Me-109,

You will need to look in the Motronic's box for the serial number.

Have a look at the F.I.M site (Ultimap) to see what I mean

http://www.fuelinmoto.com.au/

look at the products page and for BMW

If you're talking about the chip for sale with an exhaust (which I'm hoping to win tonight, assuming one of you guys doesn't bid some silly amount) then it's a Laser chip and the part number is 87.7006.Y - I checked with the seller. This means it's nominally for a bike built between 09/2000 and the end of 2002 when they switched to twin-spark (for which the chip is different again).

The chip being sold on its own is the same part number - currently on £25. To be honest the chip doesn't interest me much but I do want that exhaust..... 8) Unless anyone else has got one for sale?

I have a laser chip for a early S, not the earliest (mine!!) but the second one..... I'll dig the chip out if you are interested..... yours for a nominal fee.... (cover the postage basically!!)

I bought a full system from sportmoto, but the chip was wrong, so had to pay out for a bb power chip.

I'll dig it out if you are interested.

Morning John. If that chip is going on the open market, I would be interested. Do you think it would be ok in a May 2000 bike?

If Sproggy doesnt want it, I will take it off your hands providing it will work in the guts of my old hurdy-gurdy.

Many thanks,

Leasky.

I'm just going to save the pennies for a PC - not interested in a chip, thanks.
