AL, Thanks for the piccies... excellent. Does the whole mech vibrate a lot?

No - there doesn't appear to be vibration through to the unit.

I put the power socket there because it doesn't seem to get wet at all, but it is waterproof in any case.

Hi AL, I notice that the site refers to a RCB-CS-C+COMP, this seems to come of the reservoir cover from the centre.... would this clear all the screen parafanalia, because it might be more stable. Why did you chose the one which offsets to the right on the left cover? Sorry to be a pest!!

Stuart,

Well spotted - I don't think that one was there when I bought.

The one you mention will allow the mount to be about 11/2" further to the left which could be good, although I don't know what the cables will be doing then.

That solution is a lot cheaper due to you not replacing the clutch reservoir cover, it just uses extended bolts and spacers.

I don't see it as being more stable, though.

I chose the clutch cover rather than the brake cover as it is only safe to take your left hand off the bars (sometimes)

At least if you go for the centrally mounted (cheaper) one - you can always experiment with it fitted to the brake cover?

(the replacement cover is marked "for offroad use", which I guess is for the American market)

(I'd prob go for the cheap one now - there is more salvageable if you sell the bike)

Just looking back through the pics............... If you're refering to the socket on the right-hand fork ------that's a comms socket from the Starcom unit, which I plug the helmet into

The power socket is on the left-hand side of the instrument binacle.

(or did you realise that already?)

Cheers Al, I did notice the other power supply. I think I will go with your choice of mount... the central one on top of the reservoir looks a bit heath robinson. If I go with the tomtom it is slightly smaller than the Garmin and perhaps not so heavy.

Yeah - it is more expensive, but I reckon you'd always get your money back when/if you sold it.

Now............ TomTom?

You will hurt so-o-o bad, not wanting to admit that you didn't go for the Garmin

It will eat you up in years to come

It doesn't really matter what one you buy or where you fit it, as according to Jeremy Clarkson if you fit a satnav to a BMW, you'll all end up in Poland.

Hi Al, Well you got to me!! I did some more homework and went for the Garmin Quest. I got a good deal because as you probably know the Quest 2 is now out. Second hand but only used on two trips.... car kit , bike kit, and map extras. £225. I also got the Clutch reservoir cover mount the std mount for the back of the cradle (it may already have this in the sale) and the short black arm to connect up the two. Just need to sort out the power requiremnts and bobs your mothers uncle.

Hi Stuart,

You will be pleased with the Quest, but make sure that it has the latest software (the actual operating software) - you can check on Garmin's website.

I don't think you can upload pics to this site, you have to upload them to an IMAGECAVE, PHOTOBUCKET site (etc) and then link to them.

So - open a free Imagecave account and upload a few pics, but first check this site to see what the maximum size is for posting.

Then - copy the "EZCode" and paste it into your post on this site and "presto-hey"

At Last I now have the bike in Spain. I drove down yesterday and today (14th) and had a fantastic drive.

Al... The garmin worked so well, particularly around Madrid.... I had it set up exactly as you advised, using exactly the components you suggested...BRILLIANT. You cannot believe what a releif your advice has brought.... no frigging around while driving along.....it fits perfectly and as you also mentioned it did not get in the way of the dash panel at all.

Thank you also to all those members who offered me help when buying this beautiful beast.

One question..... I had an annual service carried out when I purchased it from Vines (obviously at their expense). Does this entail changing the air filter....BECAUSE, I had cause to connect various bits to the battery... thus exposing the air filter.....Full of crap and obviously not changed.... should I be complaining to Vines????
