Have just picked up a 2001 Red S it is standard with 9k on the clock. First few days have been brilliant well pleased. Traded in my K1200S needed the money!!!!!, but not dissappointed.

I love the red, there are bits of carbon on it that make it look neat. The K1200 S was outtanding, I had a Staintune exhaust and some Evo Race filters it was stunning. What are the best options in the way of upgrades I noticed a Staintune exhaust elsewere on this site any suggestions.

Still defending the DDP eh Bob  What you need to do is put your GS under a 1000000watt lamp 24 hours a day for a while to get the desired effect!

I've just got something that would challenge even you Bob - a Sept 2002 GSA that seems last to have been cleaned in .... well .... Oct 2002. It's SHOCKING  Only 11k on the clock though and cheap (5250) so I can't complain - might need some advice re cleaning products though.

And Doug.... welcome along

Not a chance Chris mate  I still like the S much better but wouldn't buy another cos of the history I have with my lovely old girl. I just wouldn't want to put her nose of of joint :D

Still, the garage is full now so no more new toys for a wee while

Well I have this very special bike cleaner developed by a nuclear scientist who left it too close to the reactor door when the door was open.

Yes you too can glow in the dark

But only if you are a lover of DDP

Otherwise just keep polishing

Hi Doug, welcome to the board

Jason, I take it a GSA is the Adventure version of the S - did it come with the goodies (crash bars, ali panniers etc?).

As for cleaning, could you freeze all the dirt with an aerosol spray and then shatter it with the hammer?

And then just sweep up.

Just a thought.

Hi Doug, welcome to the board.
Suggested upgrades in no particular order :
Bin the cat for a Y-piece,
fit some free flowing pipes,
get a hugger,
after 9k standard suspension should still be OK so fit the shorter swingarm brace from the GS (if you can find one) to sharpen the steering,
put decent plugs in and talk very nicely to Mr Winger about long life batteries.

After that, the sky is the limit for tart's handbag mods...
LCD lights, white lights, peg lowers, bar changes, baglux, large tanks, gel seats, carbon anything...

How bigs your wallet? - have fun!

Alright Ade - you done that service yet?

As for the Adventure - yep it has ABS, bars, grips and a ali top panier but it looks absolutley rubbish even though its only done 11k - corrosion is rife cos it's never been cleaned. Luckily the bloke I went to see about it has been keeping it in his garage for a mate for the last 18 months and he is desperate to get the space back - so his mate had both me and his him trying to get him to sell it... which was nice. I offered £750 less than the asking price and he took it - result
