I took my 'S' 5.5" to swop with Andy in Winchester 5", .. mine had no ABS.. but his did, .. and apparently required a 'Spacer Kit' from Motorworks,.. so the project was abandoned, . just a thought.

A spacer kit??? you mean a number of washers times the number of bolts, that gets as close to 4:5mm as pos,i ran around on an ABS wheels with the disc spaced as such for over 12 months without the slightest of problems.

The ABS spacers are just shim stock to position the sensor set in the final drive casting. A few sheets of shim stock and a scissors will work to set sensor-to-ring clearance. I would think that spacing out the brake disk would be heaps tougher to accomplish, and with a far greater degree of risk if the disk comes loose or wobbles.
If enough is enough and more is better than too much should be just about right.

Following the discussions regarding the fact that the rear wheel bolts should be fitted without grease or copaslip and also to the correct torque settings, there's a letter in today's comic giving the same advice, from a former BMW mechanic.

Is anybody from this site the author of the letter?

The problem was mainley with the 5" wheel fitting onto my 'SS',.. rear brake locking solid at it's max travel,.. we didn't gat as far as fitting the 5.5" to Andy's 'S' with his ABS system. I guess washers would work.. but at the time we couldn't work out what the heck was going on,.. it all seemed so simple when the plan was hatched :-)
