I am new here, be kind .
Dealer made me an offer, my 1200RT (05 plate loaded but no ESA) for a R1200S in silver and sport pack (no ABS or h/g) ready for Sep. Strait swap no extra cash.Had a 1100S in 1999 and loved it (but not my wife)and the new one is just as good.
So what would you do?
R
I guess it depends what you're going to do with it. If you enjoy touring with your wife then the RT is hands down the best option. If you ride solo and are mostly day tripping on twisty roads, the the 1200S is a lot of fun. Opinion of the diehard 1100S riders is fairly evenly split on the 1200S. We all like the more eager engine and better gearbox, but most complaints focus on lack of hard luggage, poor pillion provision and slightly sportier ergonomics.
Hope you enjoy whatever you plump for, and rest assured we'll still talk to you if you keep the RT
Cheers,
Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

2012 Mazda Mx5 2.0ltr Kuro.
2004 Roller Team Granduca 171.
1992 Jaguar 4ltr Sovereign.
2018 Volvo t3 v40 Cross Country.
Reg & Gwen.
You guys!
You can see that we don't do 'kind' here Robi.
I think the dealers angle is that he can shift the RT before the S
(Hat on ............. incoming).
Think Paul got the nail hit wit' 'ammer.
Let us know what you decide.
Had a chat at Garmisch with one of the guys who worked on the 1200s project , and some sort of luggage will be on next years model.
O...and I had in my hand on a Acro can for the 1200s - work of art- and only 1300euros
Paul has covered all the angles on the bike, practical distance travel with 1200 is a no goer,if your other half does fit on the back then i reckon thats puts you in the paedophile bracket!!!!
On a serous note, anyone doing a deal buying a BM at the moment make sures it's good'un,not only are BM being aggressive with their model line up,their also going the same way marketing wise, the 'Take or leave it' on the price is changeing, have a look at K1200 prices jesus the arse has completely fallen out of the market, what was costing well on the way to 13 grand 6 months ago can bought pre reg with 1 mile on the clock for under 10,also a peruser of MCN!! i see at add has appeared from two guys selling Beemers out of the channel isles Vat paid!! i bet the phones at BM uk have'nt stopped ringing from the dealers moaning.
One dealer would take my bike of my hands for £8000 ,blames BMW FOR OVERSUPLY...that is £ 4500 loss after 14 months ,same spec bike on the floor shop (like mine) was going for under £9000.

Just out of interest, do you allow for your time spent looking and researching against the money that you may (or may not!!) save?
Had a test today on a S&GS and I am keeping the 1200RT .
The S good for Sunday blast ,but ergos are no good for distance, great engine and handling. It had a Remus on .Bike is at SPC.
The GS, well ...it was fun , front end was very light, turn in was quick, a A to B tool. But 10 g with ABS (price gone up about 2-3%) maybe not today.
.Coopers are closing down at the end of Sep.( just the car division will stay),and reopen in 2007 ,Feb.
