Weekend Exhaust Woes

Right, the day of reckoning dawned, and I collected my arsenal of weaponry - mainly of the hitty and grindy variety - as can be seen, it was going to be a delicate technical operation



Large amounts of heat, plus gas and rapidly increasing size of tw@tting implements saw the cat studs firmly still inside the collars, so out came the drill and eventually the cat was mobilized



The next predictably seized thread was the lambda probe, not helped by the fact that I didn't have the right size spanner



Never fear - the trusty dremmel despatched with the cat, and several cutting wheels later I had a free probe



Somehow I don't think that I'll be using my cat again

The metal gaskets between the collars and cat were fortunately in great condition, so could easily be reused

I haven't addressed the problem of the broken exhaust stud in the head, but I have received my pair of low mileage heads, so that can wait for another day.

I also popped a shorter paralever strut in, made possible by the absence of cat.

Not taken her for a spin yet, as time ran out, and our barbeque guests arrived - must remember to do minor things like torque up the rear wheel nuts, and fit the rear brake calliper before taking her for a spin

crikey - thats a proper mullering. the cat came off mine yesterday with a bit of dremmelling/drilling, hammer and cold chisel and Jason's trusty twatting hammer... all more or less in one piece mind..

still have to separate lambda sensor and cat.... hope it proves an easier job than you had

Well, took her out for a spin, and she certainly makes a nicer noise now - even pops and burbles, just the way I like it

Has a good bit more oomph too, and the shorter paralever arm certainly sharpens up the steering nicely

I will have to make a small adjustement to the centre-stand stop though, as it isn't currently in contact with the rubber, and I have a couple of scrapes on the suspension arm to prove it

Should be a simple hammer job to resolve though
