Hi , New to this forum. Have looked through the forum and other BMW sites.... trying to get a feel both for the typical ups and downs of the 1100s... but mainly to see what pricing I should be paying. It is very difficult to get a feel for this... such variations. Trade Approved BMW sales also vary considerably for waht seems the same specs??!!. So I thought I would say what I was looking for, and perhaps someone could come back to me or suggest a site where I might look.
I am looking for a Titan Silver and Manadarin 1100S. between 2000 and 2002... low mileage of course but enough to have sorted out the "bugs" if any. Preferably with the cat removed and the appropriate pieces and chip replaced. pannier racks, not bothered about other fancy suspension bits ... just want to ride it in Europe (a lot). Can anyone help cheers.

Well your posting is a bit of a conundrum!!! want to ride it a lot but not bothered about the shock, and yet the bikes you are looking at will have shocks on at least 5/6 years old!!
Any road up i'm digressing!!,places to look,Bike Trader comes out every two weeks on a tuesday, your local Auto Trader, your local paper and e-bay,don't worry about the e-bay thing, the serious sellers put their phone number so you can go and look at it.
Your local Auto Trader and local rag will be the cheapest, and then the bike Trader, nows the time to start looking prices are already starting to drop,if you can wait give it another six weeks most bikes above 3000 will drop a grand.
After all that don't disount your local BM dealer the bikeing season hasn't got 6/8 weeks left, shocking but true,if you've no P/X and don't have the know how or balls to buy private you've got just as much chance of a deal at a shop.
I've got a 2002 Boxer cup replica for sale if your interested. Only light cosmetic damage to the righthand side. Should cost no more than £689 to fix good as new!!!
Only kidding, it's not really for sale. Anyway who's gonna buy it now it looks like a piece of shit??
No idea what you should be paying for a bike of the age ,spec, etc but at the end of the day if you feel the price is right for the bike in front of you, then buy it. If not, then don't. Simple.
Hope you find what your looking for at a price your happy to pay.
Like Chris says - wait a while and see those prices fall through the floor. Personally I'd say you get a decent S of that age for about 3-3.5k nowdays - possibly less than that even.
I've been watching GSs lately on ebay etc and I can't believe how low they're going. I went to look at one tonight - 2000 1150GS, abs, all the other bits and pieces - £3k (it has done 68k mind) and I don't think I'll pay that in these present circumstances either....
Watch and wait for a few weeks. Don't get paranoid about low mileage either IMHO - as long as the bloke has cleaned and looked after it then miles don't matter a whole lot. What's the point when you're going to put a load on it anyway
If you can wait till all these fair weather bikers have gone into hibernation then you'll get a bargain basement price as you know. It's just resisting temptation that is difficult
Thanks for all your comments..... most helpful..... I take your point Chris about the shocks (although your maths is a bit suspect)... The point I was really making was that in so many other threads there is endles dicussion about what shocks to put on....sport long or short??!! I tend to go with OEM stiff although on my RS they are a bit soggy even when new!!
I hear the best bang for your buck is the cat to come off for say one of those y pieces motorworks is advertising... other than this I believe the bike is pretty good as standard. I have heard of many stories about bad finish on the fork legs and braces, but this does not worry me.
I am happy to buy privately... hence looking at this great forum...I think you can generally trust subscribers... keen and all that.
Finally I will be importing it into Spain...so will have to do the headlight conversion... cost me 240 euros on the F650 cs... because I had to exchnge the whole unit...Is this the same with the 1100s??
cheers for all your help folks ... fantastic

Stuart, please don't be offended at this if you've already done your homework, but have you checked up on what it'll cost you to register the bike in Spain?
I sourced a Blackbird over here for a friend in Madrid and it cost 775 euros to register it, plus 40 euros for the homologation certificate from Honda, plus around 85 euros for the Spanish MoT equivalent. Taking into account tyre and chain wear, petrol and tunnel fare for riding the bike down, headlight and speedo conversion (the latter not actually essential) it didn't save him much money over buying locally, although I did get a free trip to Spain out of it . I'm not sure whether the same economies apply to BM's?
Hi again, thanks for all your tips and hints.... What a fantastic site.
Sproggy.... No I am not insulted indeed grateful... The import duty is about 12% of the street value (their street value). this is the major expense, although there are ways round it. and the other bits you mention.....I would have to pay if I were in England in some way or other so am not to worried. I have just imported my wife's and my F650 cs (absolutely no duty)... then a chic from Zaragosa... ploughed into the back of us BOTH.... 2 weeks later. Much bruised and bikeless.... we are waiting on the Spanish Insurance companies. I will trade in my F650 for the 1100s.
Having said all this i will probably end up buying in the UK and riding down. Prices over here are quite buoyant because they do not have a winter to supress the pricing.
I am desparate now for a Titan Silver and mandarin 1100s!!!??? Stuart

Well I have picked it up and it is fantastic. Only done 55 miles but know it is good.... Stable good riding position for me (Not unlike My R100RS). Bought it from Vines in the end. Paid just over 5K for it but had a full 12 month tax, ful tank etc etc. Annula service. 2 new tyres (bridgestones). 9900 miles march 2003 twin spark. All the other features of the Approved BMW scheme including European b/down cover. Silver/grey and manadarin. exactly what I was looking for.
I am now looking for a GPS unit for it...see another thread. Blackal has been absolutely fantastic in helping me here, as have a few others with their advice.. It is so nice to get "unbiased opinions" instead of sales talk. I will post a piccie as soon as I have worked it out.
By the way if you have followed this and another thread you will know that i was trying to trace the previous owner before buying.... I discovered it was a BMW press bike back in Mar 2003 and was featured in a number of articles.. If you believe as many do that the way to run the oil head in is to be rather "robust", then I think mine would have been. I wonder what this bike has in store for me!!
