Please can somebody tell me how I adjust the idle speed, as it is running about 850 rpm on my bike, and at stand still it seems to want to chuck the pistons out of the pram so to speak.

A man can fall many times in life but is never a failure until he refuses to get up
Two brass screws at the rear of the throttle bodies, but you really need a carb balancer to get them right. Best to just use the fast idle lever on the left hand bar.
Madman is correct, but i've hardly ever used the left screw, your only ever matching one against the other, have you still got your Twin Max??,just makes life that much easier,if you look at the clues,it's the first thing you do,the tickover.
Mine runs at bang on a 1000 when it's warm, what i found after setting the motor up with the Twinmax on a regular basis, after a while it just didn't need it and stopped the surging as well, although the PC has got a lot to do with it as well.
Hi andrew
All information on setting your idle and throttle body balance can be found here www.ibmwr.org
Look under r1100 in the tech section to the right.
Hope that helps

The very simple answer is 'YES',with a Twin max you set it at tick over, mine runs bang on a 1000, like a swiss watch, and then you set it at 3/4000 ajusting the right side cable, even locking the nut up will alter it!!!it's a little time consuming but not rocket science, but jesus does it make difference, the problem being without a form of balancer you havent got a prayer.

I don't really like the idea of using the fast idle lever.
Surely that's like riding with the choke one ?
Is it really a big deal to adjust the 2 screws ?
No big deal, to increase the idle , just unscrew the big brass screws both a half turn each at a time.
If you've done enough bikes, it's easily possible to do the tickover by ear.
Your not going to harm the engine or cause any surging, as your not affecting the throttles or adjustment once it's off the idle.
Thats to do with the settings under load i.e. cable adjustment.
My bike likes its idle at 1200 as lower than that it is less steady and vibby.
I too set it with my twinmax what a great piece of kit it is,nice to be able to do a setup when you want and not wait till service time.

Bugger.
I ain't got a balancer !!!
If I bought a Twinmax,would I be able to use it ?
Is it fairly straight forward to use ?
Does it involve much dis-assembly ?

The fast idle lever is just that , it's connected to the throttle cable junction and opens the throttles slightly. Purely mechanical doesn't affect mixture

It's not how fast you ride, it's how you ride fast.
