Newbie Introduction

Post by turboferret »

Guys,

Thought that I'd introduce myself here - seems like a friendly knowledgeable place!

Just bought a 2000 S, this one to be precise:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... %3AIT&rd=1

Changed from a TL1000S - I do a few Euro tours with the missus (been to Mugello this year - awsome) and the TL isn't the most comfortable thing to cling onto the back of, and we were both keen on some nice hard luggage.

Narrowed my choice down to an initial 2, of a pre-VTEC VFR800, and the 1100S.

I used to have a VFR750 FL a while ago, and it was excellent until I threw it down the road

Took an 800 out for a decent length test ride, and it was very acomplished, super capable, quick, comfortable, civilised, but ultimately far too good, and lacked involvement. Got off after an hour, totally uninspired. If Euro tours were it's only job, then maybe, but as my only form of transport, I'd have to be going everywhere at ridiculous speeds to have any fun

However, onto the S, and I really wanted to like it, but at the back of my mind half thought that I'd find the engine breathless and disapointing. That all changed after barely a few minutes, and I love the way it all vibrates! The missus was also pretty much an instant convert too, with the verdict that this had all of the character that the VFR lacked.

Coming from a TL, I suspected that I'd find the speed of the S rather pedestrian, but it certainly has a decent mid-range, which I'm more than happy with.

All in all, very happy with my new toy, and with the hard panniers, should be good for touring. Just need to get a tank bag I think.

Only minor thing is my battery light is now coming on - I've posted in the tech section on that.

Cheers, Rich

Hi Rich - welcome to the group :)

This forum's quite a refreshing chnage from many, in that almost everyone is well aware of the 11S's faults and foibles, yet all understand that at the end of the day it is a great bike. From A to B it's surprisingly rapid.

Hope to see you around sometime - keep an eye on 'Days Out' :)

Welcome onboard Rich.

Cheers,

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

I would have thought so.

However, my problem is that I spend around 9 months of the year away on work, so opportunities to mess about with bikes are unfortunately rather sporadic.

In the London office at the moment, but expect to be sent off to South Africa/Brazil at a moments notice :?
