Sparks will fly ....

Post by hjr1100s »

but not today.

Thought I'd get home early and started the bike at four

... started the bike ... started the bike ..... started the bike

NOT started the bike :!: :?: :?

Hmm. Starter engine did its job ... but after loosening one of the sparkplugs ... well plug that is ... no spark to be seen.

Took it apart where it stood, sprayed some WD40 at strategical places like connectors and so ... but to no reveil. Dead! :(

Well I was a bit stunned, must admit. It's the THIRD time (no gas, broken dynamo belt, and ...) in 120.000 km's it actually left me aside the road.

My mechanic comes to pick it up tomorrow. It ran fine this morning, but maybe the combination of roadsalt and a quick cleaning and rinse yesterday caused some sort of failure. Any idea's?

I'd say side stand switch, broken wiring around the ignition switch, or maybe a faulty coil.

Could be the Halls sensor on the end of the crank - I was with someone on a GS when his failed and he had the opposite of you - a permanent live to the spark. I had one fail on my golf - no spark at all ever.

It's a little plate and a sensor that sits behind the alternator pulley - I think others have had them fail too in the past - I carry a spare on long trips now just in case!
