R1200S - Knockout or bloody nose ?!

Afraid I'm still undecided about the new S, Guess I'm in the target market in that I'm an existing BMW owner and I like the way that a big twin delivers its power and torque. I prefer shaft drive (just cannot be arsed with chains anymore) I also like to ride something a little bit left of mainstream but despite his best efforts my dealer can't get a deposit from me. The old S with its do anything capabilities suited me down to the ground but the new one just seems to focused for me. I never ever carry a passenger but do like to be able to carry some luggage when I'm away for the weekend or on holiday,I also like to be able to park up and walk away hence the preference for hard luggage. I'll deffo test ride at the earliest opportunity but I'm not in any great hurry to open my wallet.

Peter's summed up my feelings pretty well - the new'un just doesn't do what's required. It's not full-on enough to appeal to the knee-down-on-every-corner brigade, yet doesn't tick enough boxes for those who love the old S's capabilities.
I too will get a test ride, but it'll be purely to quench the thirst of an inquisitive mind.

Shaft or chain has never bothered me,but after delving into Gus's shaft at 40 odd thousand, i'll take a chain very time,it's dirtier and more hassle maintenance wise but just being able to strip sprocket's and chain off,in the bin and start afresh,as opposed to something that is progressively going to get worse!!
As for another bike i'm still getting over the shock of rideing a Triumph ST last year!,went and had a look at a secondhand one on tuesday!,three bikes really is a gross indulgence! i'll have to speak to Archie!!

However, if you have a small space available, put a nice little suzuki in it.
Tell yer missus its owners were going to put it in a sack and drown it!
Err 2 more Ducatis - a 900ss which IS Black Beauty, pics to follow, and a Pantah 600 which is a shed right now.winger wrote:Hang on a minute,2 S's,a trick Ducati,a new Gixxer thou, that will no doubt have you on some ones boot lid!!! what else.
I've been looking but still haven't found a suitable bootlid!
