Well I've not yet removed the filler yet to do any mods as I've not had the time, so I've not seen for myself what's in the tank. The noob questions below are based on a bit of trawling through search results.
I've got a few questions after doing numerous searches of Pelican Parts and here.
What is the cannister? I assume it's something to do with the fuel tank, and removing it increases the capacity? It seems to be made of charcoal too going by someone's post.
There's also a black float thing, which once removed (and it's connecting pipe bent upward) also increases the available capacity before it overflows/vents - but the cannisterectomy has to be done first.
Any advice much appreciated...though maybe I should stick to drilling the holes...or just say sod it and buy the larger tank winger has for sale...
Hi
All that stuff is on the US models to comply with there emission laws.
It is not on a UK spec bike.
You can either drill the filler neck to gain a little,or get the extended tank of chris which provides a real gain in capacity. As long as you dont have ABS of course.

Gus mate - the charcoal thing might be US but the other overflow bulb thing is on my bike - it's an absolute B'atch to get back on if it falls off in the tank whilst drilling the neck believe me
Can't see that it would increase capacity very much though cos it is only small. Personally, I would say the big tank IS the best option.
One of the bits I read before i drilled mine said to bend the float thingy up as far as it would go to allow for the higher level of fuel in the tank so that it did not vent overboard. the piece I read said about .2-.3 of a litre increase! Have not been out on the bike since I did the mod so I don`t now if thats right or not.

wooooo a whole extra 3 or 4 miles, well worth the effort then eh !
hmmmm.

Have you ever tried pushing an S 3 to 4 miles Anyway - I think it must be more than that cos I've put 18.45 litres in my tank before and it's still had some in it before I filled it - could have just been 3 or 4 miles worth though.
Yeah, well worth the bother, I am hoping its a misprint. From the info on the board it seems to be about 15 miles extra which should about 2 litres, still not good, my gsx 750 used to do 165 miles on 16-17 litres(carrying a fat bloke I have to say).

And what did it do when you were riding it and not that fat bloke !!!!
I know every little helps but to be honest I generally get 120-150 before the lights comes on and thne I'm good for another 40+
I'd like to get the larger tank of the Brummie mafia, but I need to change/sell my PC680 odessy first. ANything else I don't think is worth the effort, but then I am a lazy sod !
