FIM CHips feedback please ....

Post by theseadog »

Evening all

Looking for feedback from FIM users

I've no issues with the bike's running, no surging or any other probs, but.....
I've now got a lennies and a full 2 > 2 StainTune fitted ( thanks Andrew  ) and I don't want any worries about running lean with the resultant problems.

Feedback appreciated, answers on a postcard to the usual address please, interested to hear any changes in low/mid range torque and fuel economy ( cause the sodding tanks too small to start with )

theseadog,

Funny you should mention me, but I had the F.I.M chipped fitted with the induct and Staintune. I would recommend the chip to anybody. Have a look at the Pro Twin site for details. Anything else you want to know please ask.

Hi Andrew,

Take it you're fully mended now ? I had peeked at the protwins site this afternoon, but couldn't really find any hard details. I take it it was the Ultimap Engine Manager that you had ?

How did you find it for low/mid range torque and what effect on fuel consumption did you notice ( if any ) ?

Tar much

Get a modded tank (+4 litres) and possibly the Power commander to be safe ?

:D

Now you wouldn't know of one for sale by any chance would you ? 8)

Now I do believe that 2 WB power commanders have made their way to the midlands, have they been fitted yet, and if so what do you two think of them ?

I'd like to go for the big tank, especially for my rides up to the North West, as petrol stations can be few and far between up there, but I've got a Odyssey 680, so I guess I'm 1 1/2" too big ! ( Never thought I'd hear myself saying that I can tell you . . . . .)

However if anyone wants to buy a 14 month old Odyssey for a good price I'll certainly have the tank

He hasn't got the tank!!! I have!!! well he has but not the spare!!!!

As for the battery,at the momment a 545 is ten quid cheaper than a 680!!!,so i'm shore there are plenty of takers for a 680,and to be honest both of e'm will blow your socks off!!!

As for the Power commander, god what a nightmare thats going to be,when your mate runs(owns) a shop six days a week, and has a race team and ten engines to build, getting your foot in the door and saying 'Tell e'm to piss off' while you dyno our S's is possible but!!!!!

There you go spotted your way in ..... He only works 6 days !
I thankyu . . . 8)

You could always run it up yourself, make the adjustments and then let him run his eye over it to make the final adjustments after you've done the groundwork. My pal also has a dyno, so I just mug him out of hours as return favours . He did my last vfr which went like stink after he'd finished with it. Being an old fart now of course I just want low/mid range oomph, and of course big tank range !

theseadog,

Try the F.I.M site and read up on the Eprom, as this is the chip you want. It is mapped for the mods to your bike. As regards performance I felt my bike went well and really pulled nicely. The fuel economy was mid 40's on a very spirited run.

HI Andrew

thanks for that, I checked with protwins this morning and they don't support the BMW any more, they'll supply them, but are only working on the Dukes now. Not quite sure what they mean, as I thought it was a plug 'n' play job anyway with no adjustments, unless you're reburning the eprom. Anyway no matter, just want the chip and jobs a good un.

Been in touch with FIM down under and awaiting reply, though I'm happy with mid 40's from a "spirited run" as you so un-incriminatinlgy put it . . .

So just need the chip, get my Odyssey 680 shifted ( any offers ?) get the bigger tank and I'm laughing, ha ha !

theseadog,

I would not wait for a reply from F.I.M they are a small company and I never got one, but things might have changed. The chip is a plug and play so I would just order it from Protwins.
