Anyone give the details of the people best suited to overhall a rear shock and the likely financial damage given that it needs a new spring cos the plastic is coming off the old one Might as well get it done when the rear of the bike is in pieces.
Got quoted about £85 + postage to get the R6 rear Ohlins overhauled by an outfit I found in MCN - can't remember who they were but they were based up north and one of about 3 suspension bods in the classifieds. They do non ohlins stuff as well as they were supposed to call me back to confirm whether they could overhaul the S standard shock....
As usual, havn't followed it up yet (R6 languishing under cover in yard...)
It's £100 for the rebuild, but mine needed a new damper rod (scored) which they machined for an extra £50. They were asking something like £80 for a new spring, some of the paint is flaking off mine but I didn't bother at that price. They will re-powdercoat the original, but I didn't have time.
That must be a fixed price for any shock then because they quoted me exactly the same for a Showa unit - I'm a bit dubious about the rod though, makes you wonder if they just say that to wring another £50 out of the customer... cynical, moi?

Forgive me father for I have sinned... ex S owner moved onto pastures new with four cylinders and a chain... and back to a twin, albeit in a V.
I've rung MC so far. They say £65 (including VAT) for the refirb, plus £53 for a new spring which doesn't sound too bad, until they find something NASTY I'm sure. I might wait for the spring and just let it continue as it is through the winter (but get a shock shield) cos if they're throwing down a load of salt for this Siberian winter I may as wall not get a new shiny shock gummed up eh
Adam, the rod was def. scored as I have it here in my hand. The reason for the rebuild was the oil had spewed out.............mind you it had done approx 40k miles. I needed it in a hurry and they didn't let me down, had it done in a day.

Fair enough, I'll turn the cynicism down a notch

Chears
Just do the MZ thing, cut up an old inner tube and slide it over the shock, works wonders if you don't mind the slagging

Good idea - I'll do that, and the black will go with my colur scheme a treat
They suggest a sock or something similar over on the Pelican. None of mine are breathable, are they using a better quality material for their feet over the other side of the pond ?
