HELP My S engine just died

Tonight, the engine just simply stopped and died whilst riding in town. All electrics seem fine, fuel pump making the right noises and starter turning over lovely. It simply died and failed to re-start. Eventually had to get recovered to Braintree,.. a 3 hours wait and 2 hour journey,.. lovely. I changed all fuses, definately fuel in tank,.. but its a bit late to do anything tonight. Any hints?

It's still turning over??
I'd check the obvious.Plugs(are they sparking),fuel getting through etc?
Then renew fuel filter.If no spark check hall sensor,side stand switch, and coil.
Were there any symptons at all?Most sudden faults are electrical!

Check sidestand switch and then follow wire to check for short and/or chaffing.

Mine did the same thing recently. On older bikes apparently the hall sensor on the timing can pack in. This usually shows up when the engine is hot. There is a chance that the bike will start ok when fully cool. If it is the above problem, it will cut out again when it warms up.

Other electrical wire chaffing : round the ignition barrel, under the faring (Paul where were those photos you posted?).

Thanks fpr all of the tips above... but so far the problem's still totally elusive. Cannon's of Chelmsford are going to collect the Bike (about 20 miles away) for only £25 (Hurrah),.. but can't collect it until 11th october (Booooo). Back to despatching the Bandit for the moment, ... which is actually not all bad news,.... a hell of a lot cheaper to run and much quicker through traffic, ..... just slightly less fun. I'll keep you posted as to the diagnosis.

Bailey,.. what do you mean a 'Second Mortgage'?. I already have 2 of those. Unfortunately,.. my 'ex-wives' (yes,.. very plural), kept both of the houses that they are attached to, but that's just a measure of my true generosity. Oh well, .. life goes on.

Well,... the diagnosis seems to be...... A beyond its sell by date fuel filter, .. causing it to 'kick-off' a fuel line and starve the enigne. I've actually had a new fuel filter that came with the bike,.. but bing a lazy tart,.. I never got around to fitting it.

The failed fuel filter is a classic sign of water in the fuel! I bet the bike has only a modest milage, so the filter wont be filled with dirt.
Annual maintenance should include COMPLETELY draining the tank, little beads of water will corrode the tank from the inside out.
Water gets in with the fuel, condensation on the inside of the tank and when the filler is left open in the rain.

Feels totally weird despatching the 'S' again after 4 weeks back on the bandit. It feels so bloody heavy,....... thank god BMW lightened my wallet otherwise I dont know how I'd cope. Having had to wait 2 weeks for them to look at the Bike,.. Cannons of Chelmsofrd took a further 5 working days to look at it and then fix it. It seemed even though it was 'Booked In' 2 weeks in advance,,.. it ended up at the back of a very long 'Q' of emergencies. They know I'm a Despatch Rider, .. and lets face it,.. a bike is a petty essential piece of kit for that, .... so what made the 'Others' emergencies? (Apparently they've had a bit of a rush on fitting,.. fixing and re-fitting BWM Sat Navs which seem to let too much H2O in, .... now that's what I call Real Emergencies). For all the seemingly good press that BMW dealers get in 'Ride Survey' etc,.. I was not a happy bunny at all.
