Scotland 50mph Consultation

Post by JamesL »

The link for the consultation is here: https://www.transport.gov.scot/consulta ... sultation/.

Doubtless responses will be ignored unless they are consistent with Our Betters' view, but hey...

Completed... Basically think will increase frustration and so risks people will take. Also increase instances of goods vehicles rear ending quicker braking vehicles at junctions. Cost of enforcement will increase. IMHO.

Completed... although I suspect the whole exercise is window dressing. The questions suggest it's a done deal. :(

As ianc53 says, that felt like a box ticking exercise, for a decision already made, with the tone of the questions.

[rant]
I am continually dismayed by general driving standards in the UK currently. Speed (V squared) is clearly a significant variable in the energy (and therefore impact) taken into accidents and also reduction in time available for good decision making.

It is about time driver/rider training is firmed up, not dumbed down to enable/ease people 'passing their test. Many people on the roads lack the understanding and situational awareness (hampered also by a massive increase in distraction inside modern vehicles) to drive safely.

Given how many hoops new riders now have to jump through it'd be nice to see the same applied to new car drivers have to work harder. A problem locally is lots of young illegal migrants are driving for the likes of deliveroo and just eat etc with no valid UK licence, or insurance etc.
