I liked BMW when they ploughed their own furrow, sometimes successfully, sometimes not. Some of the latest bikes strike me as being a reaction to the market, rather than proactively trying to make their own markets. I guess that's business in the modern world.
I would have like to see what could have been ultimately developed with telelever and duolever for example, but these appear destined for extinction as the bikes become more conventional.
I agree Herb, I'd never sell the 12s so i've got all of BMW's quirks but I think I would like something like this [a bit parts bin as you so rightly say], maybe with flatish bars and deffo not clip-ons just to bimble our local backroads and go out with the wife when she's on the Enfield
I sat on a Racer at Dick Lovett Motorrad in Bristol on Friday. The sales guy said that they'd paint it any of the standard colours for any of the franchised car dealers on site. The Bristol site services including Aston Martin and Porsche as well as the BMW car dealership. Can't remember how much for - I think he said about £800. I rather liked the white one though.

I have a yearning for black with white pinstriping a la the way the 60's BMW racers were ... with the Zard 2 - 2 pipes too

R9t Racer, cool, retro and in trend but it ain`t got the 125hp lc lump has it? looks like a bike for racing snakes and girls not mature portly gentlemen. I may add.
If I were to splash some cash on a retro it would have to be The Paul Smart Ducati.
With Fontana on the Guzzi Racer, sat on one at the bike show. Loved it.
