paint!

Post by mincer »

Hi , got some bits to paint, so goes up to local reputable paint supplier and guess what ........the Bright Red cannot be found , pants...need the paint code , quick call to Rainbow and bingo 409 code , still no cigar.....I'm afraid folks if your 11S is "dog dick pink" the paint don't exist.
So I look the guy in the eye and say what can you do , I've left the hump and he is making a special brew up.
This is going to take a couple of days......if all is well he is going to make the brew common knowledge so it can sourced.
Life as they say can be interesting!

I'm in the same boat with my 1100RS which is the same colour as your bike.
Marrakesh red.
It's a very bright red.
It fell over the other day, and the upper fairing is now in the repairers.
It's repaired but now needs paint.
They phoned the local BMW dealer, who came up with four different paint codes for this particular red.
WTF
Then they phoned me back to say they found a number on a sticker inside the fairing which does correspond to one of the codes BMW gave them which was 738.
So might be worth looking at the back of panels.
If you see a sticker with three numbers on it, that'll be the code you need.

My red 93 RS shows paint code 658 on the sticker under the tank and in the delivery book
Touchup bottle from ebay to this code matches really well.

Yes but the problem is, as I said, BMW list 4 different codes for Marrakesh red as I just found out.

Should have said the sticker is on the lid of the airbox
I think the codes changed with the year but they kept the colour name

Here's my 1100 RS.
The first photo is in it's original fully faired spec.
The second shows the half fairing conversion I did using two fairing side panels purchased off ebay with a different paint code reference.
If you look closely you can see it, but it doesn't exactly shout out at you.
I think the difference is negligible.

738 isn't a paint code, it's a scheme code. The R1100RS was Marakesh Red 2 which is paint code 392

BMW use scheme codes for some bikes, particularly those that may be made of more than one colour. For example the Mamola Boxercup is scheme code 916 (I suspect a dig at Ducati ... especially with the underseat pipes) ..... 916 scheme means it's Blue and white paint
