MZ1000

Post by milleplod »

Fontana's thread about winter hacks, and the pic therein of an old-school MZ, reminded me of having a ride on one of these some years ago, when I had my Mille and Futura in the garage. There was a local dealer, Pleasley Motorcycles, who stocked new MZs, a fair few older ones, and a selection of earlier boxers too.

It really was a nice thing to ride, and I thought it compared well to the Mille. MZ then brought out an ST version with raised bars and hard luggage -

.....followed by an SF one, which looks quite funky -

The police ran them too -

What a shame the company that gave us the expansion chamber is no more.

I got as far as enquiring with a local importer about one back in the day , but never got to ride one . If you do some digging on the web you'll find police versions of MZ Two strokes also....

The only MZ that ever caught my eye was the Skorpion. Still eye catching now!

Yep me too.
I always thought the MZ1000 was trying too hard to be an Aprillia, rather than retain a unique identity.
The Skorpion was much better for me.
Quite rare now.

I owned one of these for 3 years , very reliable and smooth also quicker than you think.
Bought and serviced by Dave at Pleasley M/C , I actually regret selling it and would have another.
There are a number of new ones .....trouble is they are in Malasia!

Loved my MZ Baghira, great little supermoto for flying around London. Top spec parts and a Yamaha XT660 engine to boot.
Would still like one when finances and garage space allow.

I had a baghira until last year, great fun and excellent build quality, sold it along with my 1100s when I got the GS, regretted selling it almost immediately and still do, there is an mz1000 for sale on the MZ forum at the moment.
