New battery blues

Post by DarmahDan »

Hi, first post here, and unfortunately it's with a problem. My '98 R1100S (all standard spec) had a failing battery as it wouldn't hold a charge, my error for buying a cheap one. Replaced with a higher quality one, installed, but now all I can get electric-wise are lights & horn. When I switch the ignition on there is no whirring of servos / fuel pump - nowt. All fuses are good. Gentle prodding of all electric wiring around the battery case has done nothing - just in case I'd dislodged a connector...
Anyone had a similar problem or a sensible idea of where to check next ?

Ideally you should be looking for the wiring diagram and tracing where voltage is and is not going. I suspect the ignition barrel switch and harness would be my first point of investigation.

started out with nothing, still have most of it left.

Make sure that the run switch is in the correct position, bike is in neutral, side stand down etc, as some on here have been caught out by that 'feature'.
Not me of course....

Might be too obvious, but have you charged it up first. I've seen loads of new batteries with very little initial charge on them

Have you checked the side-stand switch? :D
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....
