My first service.

Post by Trumpetdude »

I've been in the position to have BMW service my r1100s, now I'm not. I'm pretty much cool with everything and even though it's a 36k service all the major work was carried out at 30k. One question I can't find an answer to is can we flush these engines pre new oil? If so, can we use regular engine flush? Basic question, just thought I'd ask.

Ta.

Just drain the oil and fill it up with new stuff.

Not a fan of using flushing oil as it can loosen deposits which don't then get moved fully into the sump to be removed at the next draining.
Have had one engine go terminal after crank oilways blocked with debris after using flushing oil (old school motor without proper filter though).
More of a "just change the oil and filter regularly" type of approach works for me.
