My R1100S (finally)

So having taken months to find a bike that I thought was actually worth the money being asked I stumbled across this beauty.
Full BMW service history, obviously a well looked after bike.
Drove to Devon and back 450miles to collect it.

Went out on it for the first time yesterday, have to say am very impressed so far, handles so much better than the barge I owned last (ZRX1200R).
Was anxious as a few people said it takes a while to get used to the lack of any fork dive under braking.
All I can say is its bloody brilliant not having the bike dive, so steady,so smooth am loving my early boxer ownership.

Any ideas how to clean the down pipes up a bit?

Well done! Looks and sounds to be a good bike!

Autosolv is the way to go with headers, or ceracoat/ceracote (do a search on this site - think Davethegerman did his?)

Err ....I think those are going to need some wet & dry before the Autosol!

I think you will need to start off quite course grit to get the worst of the corrosion off then decrease the grit as far down as 1500 to get a reasonable finish. Then polish up with Autosol.

There's a product that I use call optiglanz which is brilliant on stainless steel. Spray on wash off.
Used to get it at hein gericke, so not sure if there's still a supplier

I did mine last year. Greg is correct; It shall take more than Autosol.

Lovely colour scheme - one you get those pipes up its be even better.
Seat has been customised but looks a good job as the pillion seat cover has been retained. Or is it a Sargent ?
Fork lowers look quite tidy - usually these are pitted.
Laser pipes I think ? nice addition .
The oil cooler grill is also a nice little extra
No ABS - lucky man it would;d have caused problems sooner or later.
Rear mudguard has been cut down or removed.

Al it was DaveG who had his pipes coated. I seem to think they were impressive at first but did start to discolour

I had a similar problem with my headers when I brought my bike (although not quite as discoloured as yours). I used Autosol and some elbow grease to get the worse off then I used my dremel with some of the polishing tips coated in Autosol too.. I'd suggest testing on the bottom of the exhaust to make sure the polishing bit you have isn't too harsh but it's really easy and with the dremel you can get most of the nigglely bits too! They came up a treat!
