Brake light failure R1100S

Post by Dids »

Lifted the tank on my 2001 R1100S today to check if a faulty connector was the cause of left side heated grip failure.
Put it all back together, still no heat to the left grip and now there is no brake light either.... ...... :(
I fitted a new tail bulb and checked what wiring I could, but no joy.
Neither the front brake lever nor the rear brake pedal now trigger the brake light.
Maybe I disturbed some wiring/connector when I was fiddling round under the tank?
Any ideas on how I might restore the brake light?
Cheers

Check the fuses.

Position F1 between contact 1 & 2. You'll need a 4A fuse. That is the fuse for the front and rear brake switches.

Postion F2 between contact 3 & 4. Same as above. That is the fuse for the rear tail light.

For the heated grip. The black wire from the 3 position switch splits into 2 for the LH and RH grip. The orange wire is a 1.9 ohm resistance from the 3 position switch to the junction with the black wire. For low setting the orange should be on. For the high setting the black and orange should be on. Brown is the return or negative.

Thanks++ for your helpful response.
I checked the fuses but they were all OK
When I find myself a voltmeter I'll use that to check the heated grip wiring as you have suggested.
I finally found the source of the problem with the brake lights - it was nothing to do with me disturbing wiring after all. The problem was that the tab in the tail light bulb holder was no longer making good electrical contact with the brake light bulb. Solution was to bend the tab so that it made better contact.
Thanks again for your help.
