Optimate 4

Post by Prone »

Hi all
I have just returned to biking after 25 years and things have moved on in the tech department, I have purchased a 2004 R1100s and have a couple of questions. The bike is fitted with an auxiliary power socket just above the gear leaver is this a factory standard fitting and is this a "CAN-bus" type socket ?
Also I have purchased an optimate 4 charger can I plug this into the auxiliary socket instead of fitting the supplied socket ?

Hi Prone,

Canbus wasn't invented in 2004, so no worries on that score.

I'm pretty sure that the socket you are looking at - is not even switched, and is therefore permanently live from the battery.

So - just plug your optimate into it. (your optimate will give indication of current flow anyway)

If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

You're right, it's not switched.

Thanks for the replies i will just have to purchase a lead for the optimate to the socket, the socket is similar to the one in the car but smaller is this the
DIN Socket ? Apologies for the dumb questions but I've talked to several dealers today and I'm still not sure what im after :(

You need a Hella adaptor (Ebay?) but you would be easier and cheaper just to fit the tails you have - to the battery?

Try this:

I'm no electrician for sure, but I do know that systems referred to as can bus were in use in trucks in the late nineties.

I used the power socket to charge my R1100s I used a plug from Motorworks Part number ELA60106 http://www.motorworks.co.uk/vlive/Shop/ ... 5_30_IA_80

BTW the centre pin is the live connection.

Thanks for all the advise I have ordered the optimate lead today. I'm going to have a go at the valve clearance and throttle bodies over the hols, can't think what happend to my vac gauges from 25 years ago so treated my self to a twin max, I will just have to blow the dust off the spanners
