Considering Something a bit Different...

Considering getting a boxer at some point in the future, so have been doing a little research into them, when found the forum. What better place to do some research?

Much prefer unfaired bikes, so I was looking into the R1100/1150/1200R, though I must admit that the R11/12S is a damn fine looking bike. Our local BM showroom actually has an RnineT in, gorgeous in the "flesh" but somehow, I don't think I'll ever get to actually own one!

Had a few bikes over the years, a single, some 4's and quite a few triples. Only 1 twin though so far (Yam TRX).

Hi and welcome. Obviously it depends on your budget, but another option worth looking at and very similar in to the R1150 is the Guzzi Breve 1100.Yes, yes, I just picked one up

Have to say its a bit of a revelation and a bike that often falls under the radar.

Bizarrely enough, it's seeing a Guzzi in a bike shop that started this whole thing off! I recently rebuilt a VN800 for the wife, who fancied getting back on a bike after a long break. When we were looking, all the bikes we saw advertised had been sold before we got to see them. We found one that was cheap, but needed a lot of work, so it became my winter project. Anyway, I was getting a new rear tyre for that, when I spotted a Guzzi 1200 Sport in the showroom, gorgeous bikes, but a tad expensive at the moment. Started looking into the Guzzi and the options, and the most realistically affordable alternative was the R1150R/Rockster. The 1100 Breva and the 2v 1200 Sport are both still definitely on the list, but I do like the sllightly "off the wall" look of the Rockster.

Rockster is a love/hate bike

Loved mine, wife hated it. This is about 10-11 years ago up your neck of the woods somewhere, Can't mind where

A bike you can use ALL of pretty much the whole time without worrying about your licence too much, but still having a hoot

If you go that way, get a Remus on it quick & ditch the cat, much smiles and lovely noise thereafter

You'll not be disappointed with an R11/12 either

1100R, 1150R and 1100S are all good bikes. The 1200 bikes are more modern - a bit slicker and less "solid" feeling.

If it where me, I'd be looking for an 1150R, or a 1200R if the budget would reach... The R1200R is a really, really fun bike to ride on twisty country roads and around town.

I've put 91,000 of the 96,000 on my 2007 RT12 and have just bought a 16,000 12r of the same year.

Be prepared to hand over the deposit if you ride the 12r

Bikerhoss & Steve, definitely sounds like the R is what I'm looking for, though you could say exactly the same about my current bike, a 955 Speed Triple.

That pic looks familiar(ish), but it could be any one of many locations. We are kind of spoiled up here with nice roads & scenic views on a lot of them.

Saying that, there's quite a few good runs in your neck of the woods as well.

Vince, that's exactly the reason I haven't had a test ride on one yet!

One of the local bike shops has an R12R in, itching to get a shot on it, but really cannot afford it just now.

Yeah, I was the same about the S1000r. Resisted the temptation to ride it as my funds don't currently stretch to one comfortably.

For me, the Roadsters are the nicest bikes BMW make - I've just got a soft spot for them. Ever since I went with my old pal Stu (some will know him from Trixter w/e's - he owns the Guzzi 1200 Sport) to Hughenden M40 for a test ride on an R850R back in '95 I've loved the things. Great fun, practical, and good value too.

Would love a 12R but simply don't have the funds.
