two running at the same !!

Postby ned1 » Fri May 16, 2014 12:40 pm

Running windows 7,
What I would like to know is can I run "Microsoft security essentials" ( and is it any good ?) and nod32 at the same time without any problems.

Thanks

Hi Ned, no, you should never run 2 anti virus progs, but you should run 1 AV and 1 or more anti malware progs, MSE is not up to the job, Nod 32 is good, but I prefer Bit defender myself, and I also run malwarebytes premium as a antimalware soulution. those two together will give you good security.

Hi Steve, thanks for that........
So will uninstall MSE (can I just disable it for now) and install my Nod 32 (which still has some time to run)
and I am running the free malwarebytes, is the premium that much better for a home pc.

thanks for the advice
John

ps I may be able to up-grade my nod32 to ESET Smart Security if you think it will do the job ?

Best to uninstall the MSE rather than disable it, it only takes a minute to remove it, MWB Premium is much better than the freebie in that it actively prevents infections, the free one is a reactive product, ie you run it if you think your infected, Premium runs automatically. Also you can buy the licence online, search for the older type that last the lifetime of the windows installation, the newer licence only last a year.
If you can upgrade from Nod32 to Eset SS it would be better.

I'm a big fan of Sophos or F-Secure as premium products in addition to the ones Steve has mentioned too
