Bad riding

Post by bikesnbones »

Was coming home through the lanes in the car yesterday, and came up behind a rider wobbling along at 25mph on what looked to be a Speed triple.
The road BTW is national speed limit.
It's a road I use all the time, and it's safe to press on,
In the car I'm usually about 50mph, and on the bike 60mph +
He was going so slow that I started to look for the overtake in my old Rover,
Not only that, but he clearly had no bend assesment skills, and was out of position for every single corner.
Then, ubelievably as the road opened out into a village, and the speed limit went down to 30mph, this idiot took off like a cat with it's arse on fire.
Straight line heroes.
You gotta luv em

Knew a guy who owned a Fireblade and used to be a bit like that, he would get passed by a mobility scooter on a bend but what a hero in a straight line.

A lot of them are.
These are the one's that blast past you in a blur of multi coloured leathers on the straights, and then hold you up after you've caught up in the twisties.
Personally, I don't think the bloke referred to in my opening post was even up to test standard.
I mean if memory serves, in a national speed limit, provided it's safe to do so (which it was in this case), they expect you to make a decent amount of progress.

How do lorry and other drivers get away with speeding through the average cameras in the motorway roadworks?

I regularly get passed by them as I'm bang on the limit at 50.

Am I missing something?

I stick it on cruise control at about 1 mph under the average. I don't think they do get away with it you just don't know that they have been done cos there's no camera flash. Although most are restricted to 56mph - some lower cos of attempts to save money on fuel, the speed limit on motorways for HGVs remains at 60. There are those "foreign" rigs which benefit from cheaper fuel prices that do tend to make a little more "progress". I've been passed many times by "foreign" trucks that have come off the ferry at Stranraer that were certainly well over the 60 limit!! If they are getting away through average speed cameras, well, a little tale: a driver friend of mine was being polite to the boys in blue and their reply was "don't worry we're not after you but that big black Scania, according to our records is a Lambretta".
