lost 2hp ..

Post by slparry »

I've often heard the R11S's listed as 98HP, however BMW list them as 98PS which I think is about 96hp, if this is the case we're down 2 HP :)

If it can enlighten your day, you haven't really lost 2HP...

... only 1.34 because 98PS = 96.66HP

BTW, in France and Germany it has always been advertised as 98PS. So, here we haven't lost anything. .

Did you know, that it has been limited to 98PS, only by BMW's choice ?

I wonder if that was summat to do with that weird French rule about bikes sold in France having a maximum output? :?:
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

Of course PS stands for Pferdestärke, or German Horsepower.

German horses are not as strong as British horses, so it requires 98 German horses to do the work of 96.66 British ones.

Wish you brits would let go of the BHP, and confirm to the metric hp, as the rest of the western world has done. After all, the difference in between is so small, so nobody will notice it.

PS is referred to as "metric" horsepower. If, by metric, they mean "decimal", then it's not even that metric. Bit of a cop out really. Why wasn't 100kg chosen, instead of 75kg?

Why not go truly metric and scrap both HP and PS, CV etc and go kW?

If the smaller figures worry you, use Watts. Even Harley Davidson's would look powerful. Hee Hee.

Or centiwatts.

Because we invented it as a measurement, so really the rest of the world should conform to us :)

Oh I don't know, "500cc of your best ale please, barmaid" sounds cool.

Hee Hee.

They've already taken our HP, although they don't seem to have noticed that we're not listening.

It sounds awful, and it's a short measure ;)

As for the listening, isn't that a Brit tradition :)
