Not another another Noobie

Post by Ronwash80 »

Hey everybody,

I'm new to this whole forum thing but I must confess after registering with a few other forums ( most of wich are on my side of the pond ) this is by far the best forum for the r11s and 12s. A big thanks to the blokes who stated this forum up!.

I'm also new to the Beemer world, I just baught a 2001 r1100s and I couldn't be more pleased! These bikes are a blast to ride and even better, they're easy to maintenance. I had an 06 Buell lightning 1200 cc had that for a while but got in an accident and totaled her out.

A little bout me. I'm 33. I live in the Los Angeles area of California. I've ridden some form of a motorcycle since the age of ten and its the only phase of my life I haven't grown out of! I work for the local power company as a Line Worker and when I'm not working I'm probably riding or working on my new to me Moto.

Any ways, Im glad to now be apart of the beemer ( r-series ) family, you folks are an awesome group and I look forward to talking (typing) with everybody!

Speed safely and keep the shinny side up!

Welcome on board. I was in LA with work last year and it looks like a great place to own a motorcycle! However my colleague told me that you're not allowed to split lanes (or filter, as we call it) in most states. Is that true?

Welcome. Great to have another member from your side of the pond. Was in your area last year, managed to drive up Highway 1 from L.A. to San Francisco in a Mustang.....best drive of my life, would love to have your year round weather.

Jim- No worries the beer in the ice box is always cold!

Eyore & conkerman - thanks :D

Mcboxer- L.A. Is one of the best places to own a motorcycle, there is no riding season, you can ride all year! The only down side is the traffic and careless drivers, A few of my friends have been in an accident for this reason.

As for lane splitting or filtering it is legal here in California & Nevada, but that's about it. California in very strict when it comes to helmet laws though as for other states wearing a helmet is a personal choice. I really don't know why someone would want to ride with out a brain bucket but some folks do...So is filtering allowed in all of the UK? What about your helmet laws?

Hey cornishflat!

Thanks! I couldn't agree with you more about that drive, I do it every year the first week of October its awesome!

I'm definitely blessed to live where I do with the weather that we have. I would love to travel to the uk and ride I've heard it's really beautiful over there as well!

You live in Cornwall? Do you have any pictures of your local places you ride?
