Mallory Park Future?

Post by Bikerhoss »

Anyone seen any more on this http://www.bikesportnews.com/news-detai ... ewsid=9817 :?:

Hearing was today, but I couldn't see an update. Never been round it, but the potential loss of any circuit has to be bad
I see it was renovated in 1965, so you're not telling me folk who bought property near it didn't know it was there :!:

The same thing happened at Thruxton and Croft and they have to restrict use, at Brands it was a regular occurance for golf balls etc to be thrown/hit onto the track on racedays by people who had bourght houses nearby then complained about the noise and most of the time they win any complaint cases.
Mallory is a great track to spectate at but bloody scary to marshal at, especially the bit between the hairpin and the elbow in the centre bit as you have bikes on both sides and need eyes in the back of your head.
Saw Hailwood there at the post tt meeting when he made a comeback, amazing to watch.

This was put out today................

Statement from Mallory Park

Representatives from Mallory Park (Motorsport) Limited (MPML) and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council (HBBC) held a
useful exploratory meeting this week during which HBBC confirmed its viewing of the 1985 Notice limiting MPML's activities
and that the upcoming Court hearing still stands. MPML has also held talks with other related parties and is hopeful it may be
able to come forward with future plans including noise attenuation measures, once the important work to be undertaken by the
noise consultants is to hand and the possibility of eliminating the 'hairpin' element of the track. Clearly, the next step is to involve
the Residents Group and it is hoped that a meeting can be held next week to share the potential vision and benefits to all parties.

Mallory have been taking the piss for decades now, so this is no surprise - and although I'd hate to lose a good circuit, they only have themselves to blame - and I can't really criticise the local residents.

Up-date

Statement from Mallory Park

FOLLOWING today's (Friday, August 16th 2013) Leicester Magistrates court ruling to uphold Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council's
prosecutions of Mallory Park on noise grounds, Mallory Park is now reviewing its legal and trading position.

Mallory Park is delighted that the case has established a number of facts regarding the 1985 notice that were previously unclear.

Mallory Park remains open for business and to discussions with HBBC and wishes to start this process as soon as HBBC is willing

Eh?

Mallory have had noise restrictions applied for around 30 years now - but they have a habit of ignoring them and hoping for the best.

What has really tipped the balance here is that they held some car 'scene' events which attract the chavvier elements - so you had lads in loud Skylines etc. doing donuts and burnouts in the middle of the night.

If I lived next door to a track allowing that kind of event, I'd be a bit unhappy, too.

As I said - Mallory only have themselves to blame for this situation - and have done some serious damage to the image of motor racing circuits amongst local communities - who are looking at Mallory as an example.

On the other hand, you have Castle Combe, who also have heavy handed restrictions, but choose to comply with them and therefore have a decent relationship with the locals.

Well, regardless of blame, I'm just glad it's not folded before I get the chance to have a lap [smilie=biker.gif]

there was something like this to do with hednesford hills raceway a couple of years ago, the circuit has been there before I was a kid, nothing around it, then they built new houses and the residents wanted it closed because it was to noisy.

I remember being a spanner monkey back in teh early 80's for a mate who raced MG midgets then Formula Ford 1600 and 2000. Sundays you were not allowed to start race engines until after a certain time (ie after the local church service had finished). To be fair to residents the circuit is right on the edge of the village and a lot of the houses were there way before the circuit. It's a case of it is what it is. It would never be allowed to have been bult there now but it is quite a circuit.
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity
