I found another BMW site (no names no pack drill) from which I copied the following:
Technical questions and answers regarding newest R series oil-cooled motorcycles with the 1200 cc engine. Commonly referred to as Hexheads.
Now Imay have had my head in the sand for the last 6 years since I bought my R1100S (now have 1200ST) but this is the first time I have heard them referred to as Hexheads. Oilheads yes, Hexheads wtf?
Is it just that site trying to be "different"?
Lights fuse and retires

far be it from me to defend "them" (assuming it's the "them" I'm thinking of) ... the term hexhead has been in use for ages, I "think" it was used in Americstan first tho'

Ah. Why use proper English when complete bo**ox will do?

I have clearly had a sheltered life I had only heard the term Oilhead.
Looking at the head covers end on I suppose they are six sided rather than whatever the shape is for an 1100s.
I'll get back in my box now.

Weren't 1100/1150s 'oilheads', and 1200 'Hexheads' (6 sides-ish on the cylinder head)? That's what I thought anyway.... And aren't the newest air cooled boxers 'camheads'? Not heard any common terms for the water cooled one, but assume 'waterhead'.....
