You'd think they'd have the moral decency to at least put a Christmas cracker joke in there.

Any dangers in changing original settings? I mean my R110S does a bit of pinging, because of catalyst removed and straight slip on fitted... which I like  by the looks of it I'd need to change relay connecting pins and such would be it?
mmmm not sure I'd be liking pinging, predetonation is a sure fire way to melt a piston ... of course I'm a bit paranoid with having a long two stroke background :)

What does this thing do??

Does it change the ignition map or/and fuelling.

its a shame you can't get into the ECU like on triumphs.

More of the puzzle unravelled: had the day out yesterday on HerrFlick, using different maps c/- the explanations in

and

Notice the 25kW, Switzerland and <91 ron references accociated with pin 86.

Grounding pin 86 knocks off 25kW!!! No joke.

I disconnected 86 before starting on a twisties road - lots of short straights: wow - this feels livlier.

Too bloody right. Rolled it open into a short straight and ooohhh s*****t

Going back to this dyno chart posted in the original GS tubes thread:

Image

One comment was that I had lost 30hp.

I thought the reading was because of a rush job on the dyno. I was very wrong. Happily.

25kW is 33hp, and you need no imagination to know the extra mumbo is there.

It might be a safe bet that I now have the intended output of 60+33=93hp.

The 87a 'map' is for engines with long intake tubes (GS). Intiutively one would think this would fit in well with having the longer GS tubes on the 'S', but it's hard to distinguish any performance difference, except maybe above 5k rpm.

Definitely more engine vibration across the rev range and not as tractable below 3k rpm.

So if you want a wet-weather or low octane ecu mode, wire in a switch to ground the 86 pin. :) Need only turn off the ignition to change modes.

I can say from experience that in this mode you won't be wanting for cruising or brisk riding performance, and the fuel consumption improves to 260km before the low fuel warning. *** note: this is with the longer GS tubes fitted ***.

I've heard no pinging in the +25kW mode (normal power), but I always use 98-RON fuel.

Feeling very chuffed with the way this has panned out. Busting to feel the difference when I fit Lennie's sprockets.

Cheers.

My Daytona 955i allows pretty easy and simple remapping using free software voa the OBD port. Indeed there are a huge number of maps readily available.

Once I get the bloody thing going to my satisfaction I will have a fiddle. Still twirling nuts and bolts at present.

Thanks for the links I'll have a read.

Just had a read of that, interesting stuff.

The upshot being a power commander is the only way to really sort the fuelling when modded. Closed loomk operation will be Ok, but the adaptions may not be enough to account for spirited use and the mixture will lean off.

I have no intention of messing with my bike but its interesting stuff.

I've since contacted the PO, and he assures me that this was the way the bike was delivered.

In fact he was a bit peeved that he was 25kW down on power during his ownership of 55,000 km. Harrrrr.

At least I know it can't have been thrashed to within an inch of it's life.

Low rev vibes sound like syncing issues.

have you discounted this stuff before map swapping?

Does your bike feel like it has 50 or 80 BHP at the wheel?

The only time you will 'gain' 25BHP is if your bike is set up for crap fuel.

BMBler, what air filter to you have??

Banging and popping on the overrun are a pretty sure sign of lean runnning. The changes to the exhaust and the bikes and injectors getting on a bit could mean its running just that bit too lean.

Usually you could get away with a can, but filter and exhaust work needed fuelling adjustments. Dynojet or Power commander.

To BMbler and Conkerman:

Guys - the point of my post was that my bike had somehow been fitted with the gray ccp for <91 ron fuel. Same connections as for Switzetrland. Have a look at the table in my post.

All that has happened is that I've regained the 25kW/33hp that should have been there in the first place.

There's no mistaking the extra go when I disconnect pin 86. I'ts a case of sh*******ttt

Vibration: synced the throttle bodies a few weeks ago. Never 4-cyl smooth but always a gentle 'hum'.

With 'normal' power back there's some extra buzz above 4k when giving it the berries. I'm going to re-sync in that mode this weekend.

If your bikes have a red, light brown, or yellow CCP then you should be getting full power.

If you want to liven up the whole rev range and get rid of surging then fit the long GS intake tubes. Best bang-for-buck improvement ever.

Cheers

John C.

Cheers for the reply, I think there were several conversations going on.

I suspect the more aggressive advance curve used for full power mode will be a contributor to the vibes.

Definitely interested in how you get on, will be having a good fiddle with mine in a couple of weeks, when I bring it back from oop norf.

Looking forward to having a tinker.

Fuel Consumption.

Post by HerrFlick »

Back from a day on fast sweeping 70mph+ roads and vigorous mountain twistie work.

Fuel light on at 246km (151mi). Filled up a few km later: 15.5L (3 gals), from a 20L tank.
