PB once let me have spin on his for a whole afternoon around the Yorks Dales and even with my lack of riding talent (and being wary of riding a mate's pride & joy) I couldn't believe how easy it was to cover ground so damn quickly. It made my '04 BCR feel like a truck.
That's exactly what I thought after an afternoon of test-riding the 1200s in 2006. I felt like my BCR was broke (that was before I carried out any mods to the BCR - but that feeling hasn't changed, and is why I haven't bought a 1200s to go along with the 1100s - the latter wouldn't get out much
Would I buy an LC1200s boxer? It'd be a great bike for sure - but I like the BCRs too much........ so - no

I don't think they will produce a 1200s-LC. I personally don't see the point of the LC boxers at all.
The boxer configuration surely came about to cool the cyclinders. With an LC this need is negated, so what you have is a boxer for no reason. Quirky for the sake of it and it does not appeal to me at all.
My take is that they keep the boxer layout for marketing/Heritage, Liquid cooling of the heads is needed to control emissions, which drive pretty much all automotive development nowadays. The GS and RT will get the first bites of the new engine cherry anyway.
I just don't see a market space for a R1200S that is not covered by the K and S bikes, apart from fringe nutters like ourselves
Found myself looking at K1200's last night. I still like them. Maybe when I kill the R1100S...
The 1150GS sold very well even before Ewan & Charlie took it round the world. In actual fact BMW sold more of the 1200GS in the first 3 years that all the 1150GS's produced.
For those who think that you cannot get power from a 1200 twin
I do feel that there space in the BMW range for a R1200S/LC but in a higher state of tune, about 140+ bhp would do nicely. The water cooling of the heads would make it achievable and reliable.

Hi
The Germans tuners know how to get serious power out of boxers. That figure will be at the crank , not rear wheel. It's the way they do things
Still a very serious power output and a fantastic way it produces it. Bigbore kit, modified crank/rods , injectors/airbox ????? I will ask some questions. I will hopefully see how fast it is in the flesh next week. One thing it won't be running mineral oil!!!!

1258cc if I can remember correctly and in race tune done in America. More impressive than the bhp is the torque figure. Tyres won't last very long. You can follow the thread on Pelican. This is from the last page about a big bore kit conversion on a HP2 sport. The R1200S big bore conversion produces about 140 bhp in road tune.

That graph is from a German bike. Shredders is a different bike in not as higher state of tune.

Much as I love my 11S, and much as I like the look of a 12S I've got to say, wringing every last bit out of these old flat twins seems pointless. If you want a sports bike buy a (S1000rr?) sports bike. My 11S goes a long way (big tank), quite quickly, is easy to work on and has that shaft-drive so wet weather doesn't bother it, and, it has 'character'. But if it's a nice evening and I want to go for a 'rip' I'll be getting me other bike (the performance of which is only limited by some vague agreement between the manufactures) out. Thank you very much.
.
Mr. Spock is my role model so be advised; I possess no (discernible) sense of humour.
It's all VFR (DCT) round here now. STILL missing my 1100s tho.
Sorry Gus, my mistake as I didn't read the signature of the member who posted this on the forum. Make it American forum. Reading back I realise I cocked it up recalling the figures. Still impressive though and I would like to attend one of those boxer races just to see how they go. Must be a laugh.
Sorry to the members, the bore is 107mm on this particular HP2 Sport engine.

...well..., I tried it back in '06...
...trying to keep the 11S next to the 12S...
...but not a huge succes, to be honest...
...sold the BCR...
...and sold the R1150RT a month later also...
...and bought my (first) R1200RT to go along with the R12S ...

A 1200s and a hp2s is as much a sports bike as your blade and a s1000rr. In fact the hp2s was based on a actual race bike as opposed to a street bike made into a racer. Modifying and improving bikes has been going on for years. Look at the first cafe racers. Some people will always want to improve their bikes both looks wise and performance wise. I make no bones about my passion for the boxer engine. It's quirky, I like quirky. It's a challenge to improve them and get every last bit of performance. You stick with your B&Q drain pipe performance mods and let the tuners do their thing!!!
All the best
