Good plan, there was a police mechanic with I think a force in the midlands who DVLA returned his licence and lost the bike entitlement, even a letter from the Chief Constable confirming he'd worked there for 20 years servicing police bikes and had a full licence.

The wouldn't accept it and he had to take another test.

If I had to return my licence I think I'd ask for a copy first, and claim I'd lost the original, then send the copy back for address change :)

Of course I guess my accident in 2008 and the careless driving points it got me would work in my favour as had I not been licenced the courts would have had record of it, and I hope even the DVLA couldn't argue against the Court .... could they !

I also seem to recall at the height of their cock ups one guy being out on a ride on his bike and the local plod raided his house, removed his computer turned out DVLA had reported him for attempted fraud cos he sent scanned copies of his licence and they maintained he'd edited them to add motorcycle entitlement.

On the other side of the coin, my Uncle sent his bike licence for an address change around the early 70's I guess and got it back with full bike and full car ...... result :)

Many years ago my Mate Bought a Z1-b (sigh) those were the days. When the Log Book arrived it said that it was for a Kawasaki, 2000cc Estate car with 5 seats. Happy days.

When that was sorted out and the log boook arrived again it turned out that the dealer who had supplied the bike new to the previous owner three years before had made a balls of the number plate as well. Instead of the letters HMH he'd done MHM. it took about theree months to get it all straighted out.

We then set about fitting a 4/1 exhaust, KONI shocks and a box section swinging arm as well as Laverda adjustable handlebars, (they took some tightenting up to stop interesting results when braking).
There would appear to be a surfeit of prolixity and sesquipedalian content today please do not use a big word when a singularly un-loquacious and diminutive linguistic expression will satisfactorily accomplish the contemporary necessity

Hello,

Took the R1200S for an MOT last week. Apparnetly it is now a car.

Fortunately the MOT tester was able to sort it out to the right group bu tthen the R1200S did not exist as a model so he was going to put it as an ST!

Eventually he had to make a 'phonecall to sort and all was well.

Comments such as "It is an R1200S, its sitting right in front of me" could be overheard....

Doen's give you any confidence in the system.

HPI isn't much better.....Try fighting them to have a "Stolen" marker removed on a personal registration plate! They wanted to charge me for thier c*ck up

Best regards,

David

I was surprised by the DVLAs stand on the scandal with entitlements.... It's there cock up and they seemed to blame everyone else....

Luckily I can't lose my bike entitlement, as that would be an empty licence! I don't, or ever have driven a car...

the bad news is they've now removed motorcycle entitlement from your licence and you have to do your test again ... including a CBT ;)
Don't laugh Steve this happened to me, When I had a break from Motorcycling after my accident I had to send of for my new photo licence when it came back I never checked it for motorcycle entitlement as I never though I would be able to ride again 2 years down the line I had write to them to explain they got it wrong (You know whats coming) Sorry sir you will have to take your test again and CBT aaaaaahhhhhhhh  It took ages to sort out would have been quicker to take it all again.

I live in fear of it Pete ... thankfully I;ve not had to return my license for a long time as it's the old paper one so no requirement for photos etc.

I can't ever see me moving house so the license I have now will do me until it's toes up time :)

I received a letter from the DVLA saying "we're sorry that you have no faith in our system" They missed my entitlement off when I took my first HGV medical but they're had it on record so re-instated it. Their answer to this was " we were able to reinstate Mr Elliott's entitlement because our comprehensive records showed that he had past his test"
1. It was a good thing I was sitting down
2. Tell that to the police mechanic - that was highlighted in MCN

I got my old licence back with a hole punched through my face (some would say that's a good thing!). So. I have an old licence as proof + I kept all corresponcence from DVLA and my MP. Over cautious? Don't think so

So what would be the best way to renew with no fear of loosing any of the entitlements, keep
the old one and apply for a new one or will still run out on the same date !!
