EU or Not EU

Post by Grip Fast »

My two passions of gliding and motorbikes are under threat from excessive EU regulation. The recent threat of type approval, where we cannot change any part of the drive train, from air filter to tyres unless it's type approved, is a classic example.

So my immediate gut reaction to the PM's announcement of a possible referendum, was 'great. Let's vote to get out'. However, I'm not so sure now I've thought about it.

For a start, we campaigned and wrote to MEPs and managed to get rid of the worst excesses of the type approval regulations, except unfortunately for bikes under 48bhp (why???). I wonder if we were not in the EU and therefore didn't have a vote on these matters, would they get passed and then manufacturers would be obliged to comply in order to sell into Europe. So we'd be stuffed anyway. No more trick parts...

So maybe better in than out?

I've just thought, is there a forum rule about not talking politics (or bollix)?

Ah well, I've typed it now...

Stear clear mate. The last bloke who tried for a United Europe ("From the Atlantic to The Urals.") ended up blowing his brains out. Mind you, he did get some paticulary scenic roads built for us volk and the car company he co-founded all those years ago goes from strength to strength. So he could'nt have been all bad.
