Hi all just realising that after 35 years of wearing spectacles I'm feed up with the darm things. Was thinking of laser correction... before I get to the ripe old age of 'now where did I put them?'
Anyone had it done and willing to share experiances? I have quite a differnt perscription between the two eyes but websites I've looked had indicate this would not be an issue to sort. It just seems to be one procedure there is no going back from..... whereas if I sit on my glasses!!
alsdo depends on the strenght of your prescription - I thought about it and optician said my prescription was so weak it wouldn't be worth it plus there would be some deterioration with my long sightedness

From someone who only just recently got a pair of specs (I can actually read the forum without squinting now ), I'd already like to ditch them!
Anyhow, my brother had quite a strong prescription on his contacts, and went for laser surgery about 6 years ago now, excusing the pun, he hasn't looked back, and would definitely recommend it.
If you have the money, I'd say do it. Very little discomfort apparently, and a short recovery time too

I had my eyes done approx 15 years ago and when I got mine done it was the old PRK which they dissolve the tip of your eye using something (??) then burn concentric circles into your lens to alter its shape and then you had to wait 3 months until the tip of your eye grew back and healed, before they would tackle your other eye!!!
Actually reading that back made it sound gruesome but it actually wasn't too bad. I had poor expectations I couldn't function without my contacts and after years of abuse my eyeballs themselves were in a terrible state!!! I had hoped to get my short sighted fixed to allow going to the gym and playing football etc would mean no glasses but would accept having to wear them for driving etc
But alas No I went from a -4.5 to having -0.25 in one eye and having perfect in the second. Now 15 or so years ago and approaching 40 I feel my eyes are starting to become slightly longsighted which is normal for persons my age who had perfect vision naturally.
Would I recommend it Hell yeah, and anybody who puts you off has never worn glasses or woke up with their specs all bent or fell asleep and woke up after a party and have to peel their eyelids apart due to their contacts!!!
The process is much better and you can get both eyes done at the same time!!
Anybody know whether this treatment could be done on septagenarian? I've suffered with bi-focls for the last twenty five years...I hate glasses. I would be quite happy if I could ride the bike without specs and would be happy just to wear glasses for reading.
No offence Phil - but at 70+, you are probably going to be a lot less demanding than most people - in that you would probably be happy getting 10 yrs out of laser correction?
What about daily wear contact lenses?
I have an asymetric set-up, where my left eye has a slightly weak prescription to handle reading/computer monitors, while my right eye has the full strength lens for long distance.

Yep, I'd be happy with another ten years riding...nothing like optimism! I have considered contact lenses and would not rule them out. However, I'm very sqeamish...what a wimp!

There are plenty of people who've had it done, though can't say I've met an optician who has had it done!
I was advised not to have it done as my prescription strength has not stayed the same for more than two years. I would have been somewhat miffed if I had done it a couple of years ago as I would be back with glasses and lenses.
A friend had it done in January and was corrected form -9! She is suffering still from dry eye and is still being treated. Another friend short sighted after the op can see distance brilliantly but can't function at close range without reading glasses now.

My Mrs had her eyes done not so long back. She wishes she had it done years ago. just about 20/20 now she is well happy. There are a few tricks to getting a few quid off.
