With the increase in availability of bluetooth based helmet intercoms does anyone know if differing systems (Scala, Schuberth, et al) are compatible with each other or do they all have to be the same system?
The chances of all riders in a group (or sometimes even rider and pillion) having the same system is remote so just wondered if they are compatible via the bluetooth connection.

Mostly not intercom stuff seems to be mostly proprietry, I guess there's not much of a call for a standard ...
Given Schuberth make BMW system helmets I asked them the question as I have a System 6 and a friend has Schuberth C3.
Apparently BMW went off to a separate company for the OEM BT kit and it doesn't interoperate with the C3.
I also have a Parrot Sk4000 puck that clips to the sie of my Shoei XR1000 (that most have seen me wearing on the Welsh and Scottish weekends) ... I like it because it has a remote control that clips to the lh handlebar and allows voice recognition for the phone dialing and streams and controlls the phones MP3 player well. However, it doesn's operate as an intercom but the same mate also has one on his other lid and we found that it was simple enough to use the dial up to call one another while on tours etc which gave much better range than BT intercoms (assuming there was a cellphone signal)

Scala makes the Schuberth system and is compatible. The Schuberth will only allow 3 comms units but I believe the latest Scala will allow 6. Don't know about comparability with other makers Bluetooth, but would be interested to find out.
From our experience of the Schuberth, it's quite limited in range and BL**DY frustrating when it doesnt respond to vox! You have to make a noise then wait for it to initiate (a couple of seconds!!!), which often means the thing you wanted the other person to see has already passed

Forget me if I am wrong but isn't blutooth software the "standard" i.e. it should work on any bluetooth enabled product.
I think what you seem to trying to do do is use blue tooth helemt sets as a two way radios which would be down to the equipement and not what Bluetooth is supposed to achieve. My experience of Bluetooth is with phones and you have to connect one device to another to eanble the transfer of data, I am not sure you could connect all the headsets in a group of riders to each other all at the same time.
Several of the riders in our club have Bluetooth headsets and smart phones and use Voice dialling to call each other up to arrange fuel and rest stops etc when out on a run so using the mobile network as their two way radio.

No, you can't interconnect with other brands of headset directly, as has been said, the latest scala or my preferred choice of Interphone F5 allows 6 users to comunicate all together in full duplex, as well as sat nav and phone all at once, very trick!
Interphone also do a bluetooth pmr 446 radio that works with ANY make of BT headset but it aint duplex, so just like a walkie talkie in use.
