.. just bought myself an 02 R1100s and ridden home. Nice to ride, comfy-er than my speed triple, but the bike has been neglected the past year and been living outside, so lots of corrosion and cleaning up to do :(.

Slightly more worrying, when I pulled up outside my house, ticking over, the oil light was flickering on... from what I've read, that means overdue for oil and filter change?

The ABS light(s) are flashing ( left then right) constantly, but the ABS still seems to work? I'm thinking of pulling it - anyone else done this mod?

Also, the exhaust pipes are corroded, are these stainless - anytips/tricks to getting the crud off them? Same with the forks?

Hi Jim - welcome to our little corner of the www :)

Firstly - alternate flashng ABS lights indicate low battery voltage. A healthy battery and they'll flash together then go out when you pull away.

As to the oil light, not sure on that one. I have had it in the past that the oil light will flicker on when the bike has just been washed and the sensor (the terminal with the small cable near the sight glass) seems to play up. Once the engine's hot and the moisture's gone the light beheves itself.

Check the oil by getting the engine good and hot, once back home leave the bike on the sidestand for 30 mins then come back and check the level.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

You can post your questions in the technical section. You can remove the ABS your self. There is a procedure on here so best to use the search function or some one with more knowledge will be along shortly.

Best to have the bike serviced. You can do it your self as these bikes are dead easy to work on. You might have to invest in a oil filter tool, big hex key for the oil drain and if it is corroded some WD40 or GT85.

The pipes are stainless steel and a bit of elbow grease with the Autosol will make them shine again or while you,re at it cleaning the bike you can get it ceramic coated.

Hamerite silver is a good match for the BMW colour. Get them blasted clean, etch primer on and spray on the silver paint. The lower fork bridge will need doing too.

..thanks for the welcome - my daughter is a BIG Aardman fan so she will approve of this forum already :-)

Interesting - I was supposed to pick the bike up last week but the guy I bought it from had to fit a new battery as it wouldnt start. But now it has a new battery, you reckon the lights should stop flashing? Anything else I could check?

Good news about the pipes - and I will be ordering up some hammerite. Is the front engine cover refinishable without taking it to bits?

Pipes: Solvol autoSol and Wet and dry paper. wet n dry forst then solvol.

Woah - they look v nice. Are they chromed or some other plating/coating?

Its only been on around a month, so its much too early to give an opinion on its durability, and because of that, I'd be reluctant to recommend it yet, but it looks as good in the metal as it does in the pics. Total cost was around £135 including carriage.

I think there was someone else on here who posted a while back saying they'd had theirs done some time ago. If they pick up this post, they might be able to give a better opinion on its durability.

The ABS model requires a higher capacity battery (19ah?) a lower(cheaper :wink: ) capacity battery might have been fitted?
