BMW R1100S from Italy needs a help ! three questions post !

Hello to All

,

I have purchased my BMW R1100S last week, I'm 30 and I live in Genoa Italy, as you may imagine the bike is standard but the previous owner did a great job by swapping the standard exhaust system for a brand new Remus Race system together with a K&N air filter.
at this point I'd like someone would help me with the following points:

1) does the bike need re-chipping ?

2) my father R1100S had a set of 6 piston Beringer calipers fitted two years ago, do you know other company which produce 6-8 piston caliper at a reasonable price ?

3) what about an aftermarket front carbon fibre mudguard ? I don't want to pay € 290 from a factory mudguard !!

Welcome Marcello,

1. No information on Remus as I have Vanderlinde with dedicated chip on mine.

2. AP 6 pots can be fitted to the pre 2000 fork lowers with a small adapter as both Chris and I have on our S's - not cheap though!

3. Pack-parts from Germany do a full carbon front mudguard at 139 Euro plus shipping. we have to pay equivalent of 340 Euro in the UK

I have just visited the Spiegler Web site, and It lseems they've a 8 piston caliper kit for more or less € 1000, at the same price italian Discacciati frim sells a set of 6 piston calipers.
In my own opinion I prefere a ready to bolt on kit without fixing plates and adjusters, for example the 6 pot Beringer kit is ready to bolt on the fork without problems..my father owns it since the last two years and the system is working very well, I tried also Pretech guys in your Country, I had already purchased aset of 6 piston calipers from them for our Kazwasaki Z1300-6, but at the moment they're too much busy to develop a kit for R1100S...what a mess !!

Do you know Quat-d exhaust systems ?
They do a set of headers that look great !
I try Pack Parts i hope they sell online, as I don't want to wait too much for a new mudguard...

Gents,

Didn't Malc manage to fit Yamaha R1 calipers on his old S? I don't remember if he made a custom adapter bracket for them or if he got one off the shelf from somewhere.

Hello Paul,

It could work, and I have a set of Nissin calipers from my old Triumph Speed Triple, they could fit the fork but I don't want to make adapters.

Why ?
Because at our local Mot in Italy, a bike we'll never pass its examinations with calipers and plates.....

i have however ordered one front full carbon mudguard for my father (my 2000) R1100S, so I 'll take his orginal BMW mudguard and he'll fit the pack part full carbon.
There're a lot of german bikes and people here in Italy, now !
Just a question: which is the price for a set of 6 pot AP calipers ?

I got mine at a good discount (thanks Chris) and the bill came to approximately 1260 Euro for calipers, adapters, discs, brake lines and pads but I doubt if the good deal could be repeated.

I'll wait for Pretech contact me by email again, as I like their 6 pot calipers, and my Z1300-6 has great stopping power now.
Yes I have for sale that red seat, and other parts which are for Triumph Speed Triple adn Daytona from 1998 to 2001.
I have also a 1985 Dodge Ramcharger 4wd for sale....
and 45 rpm Lp's also !!

I need to make room in the garage

I had a Remus Race 2 into 2 system - as far as I know it didn't require a chip from the on-line research I did.

It did however reduce the top end power so I sold it and put the original system back on.

The Remus race system is a poor choice if it is the type without the collector box. The best way to check for correct mixture is a run on a dyno but a quick and easy method to richen up the mixture is to fit a fuel pressure regulator from a k1200.

My Remus system is the one with the big pot under the Paralever, as far as I know It's the first exhaust system that appeared in the market.
Moreover dynos are not very common machinw where I live.

Hi Marcello

While visiting the Italian GP at Mugello last year i saw a guy with a yellow 1100s with Beringer front brakes and a high handel bar conversion.

I have the AP sixpot conversion same as Lloyd but i also have Beringers with the full floating discs on a 955 Triumph Tiger,the performance is about the same.

Looking at the Italian exhaust what silencer does it use??.
