Rear Wheel and Clonk??

My R1100s was in a bit of a spill last year and it is now back on the road....

Just got a new set of tyres on and the guy said my back wheel was buckled and would therefore not balance on his machine. I have ridden the bike around and can't tell if the wheel is buckled or not...it sure doesn't feel wobbly!! Can this be repaired or do I need to get it done...the tyre guy said it would fail an MOT!!

Another problem is a strange clong coming from the front left suspension. when you go slowly over some bumps you can feel a clonk coming through the right handlebar. I've taken it to the dealer and they can't find the problem...nothing was loose. I think it is coming from inside the stantion but I've no idea what goes on in there....any clues??

Buckled rear wheel? How big was the spill? I dunno how hard you'd have to hit it to buckle it. My c*r failed on a bucked wheel this year though.

Doubt you could get it repaired - Get in touch with Julian who is breaking his bike - last I heard he had a rear wheel going (I'm having the disk though :lol: )

As for the clunk, no idea. Far as I know (which isn't far!) there isn't anything inside the tubes. Trouble is you know your own bike so well and can detect tiny faults even though you don't know the cause. I guess you've had the front in the air and pulled everything about, including the front shock?

Hope you find the problem soon anyway, or just keep riding till it really shows itself!

Oh bugger - I'm a Tw*t - thought the clonk was from the front, sorry! The only clonking I've had from that end was just before the UJ went, but that was only on pulling away and not just over bumps

AFAIK the rear wheels come buckled from the factory :shock: They are very soft and deform easily, and it doesn't take much of a knock to send them out of balance. There are places that can true up alloy wheels, usually advertise in the back of MCN.

Clonking? Could it be loose brake pads??

I think someone like Hagon's or some other peeps straighten wheels..... they just use guides and de-form the wheel straight again

Like Andy said,the wheels are as soft as shit,i'd bet good money 90% of the S's on this board have bent rears.

The clunk on the front?? mine does it, just play in the set up!!.

yup, Hagon do cast wheel repairs, £65 inc VAT, £6 extra for removing tyre and refitting it, same day service £10 extra.

Had my rear wheel straightened by Hagon earlier this year........got fed up of people saying at traffic lights, "eer mate, did you know your wheel's buckled"

Thanks for all the replys. I will have a look at the brake pads and see what the wear is on them and maybe take them out see what like.

I was told by the Ducati place that did the tyres that Hagon do straighten wheels, but it sounds like it is a common thing.

So how come BMW are so bloody heavy if everything is as soft as a babies arse?? Had the same problem with the front sub-assembly it bends if you look at it the wrong way...and now the wheels bend....what is going on??? They should be the weight of a bloody MotoGP bike!!!!
