R1100S Grips Interchangeability

Does anyone know if the grips on the R1100S are interchangeable between the early (concentric ribs) and late (longitudinal ribs) styles? I'm referring to the entire grip assembly not just the rubber outer portion.

In the diagram at:

are parts 3 and 4 interchangeable on a 2004 bike? I have 4 on now and wish to change to 3.

Yes they are, but do make sure you get the right one with regards to heated grips or not. Your picture implies one for heated one for not, but they are available for both.
