New R1200S, first post / intro etc

Hello all!

Just traded-in my first BMW (an R850R) for a pre-registered R1200S from Motorrad Central, Dalkeith. It's bog standard, with just heated-grips as an option (so no Ohlins / fat wheel / ABS / fancy clocks etc), and finished in Night Black.

2007 bike on a '57-plate with only 4-miles on the clock, and a healthy saving off RRP, so I'm very pleased with myself... It was a long way up there on Friday, but I did enjoy putting 400+ miles on the new one on the way back 8)

Great ride back over the border on the A68 & a detour across to Gateshead for a look at the Angel of the North - fabulous.

First impressions? Loads more power & torque, will have to watch the speed on the road as 70mph just feels like tootling now in "commuter position" with a straight back... Amazing.

Seat is a bit hard at the moment (or maybe it's my backside) & I'm hoping the tank-range will improve steadily as the engine runs-in. Definitely need a hugger, and therefore a paddock stand, and probably a double-bubble for a quieter ride on longer runs. Other than a rear-bag of some kind, I'm going to try & keep it as stock as possible for now...

Glad to have found this site (thanks herrman), recognise many of the names from other bike forums - hello riceburner! - and look forward to seeing some of you out & about at the usual breakfast spots.

Welcome hirsty, must have been a good deal to travel all that way.

I was at Dalkeith last Wednesday, so might have seen your bike there.

Thanks all - bike was £7,150 all-in, which I make to be 23% off list. Quite happy with that, though it's the same money as the new GSX-R600 will be at at launch this month.

I think that the dealer had ended-up with three R12S's all the same, so he pre-registered mine & did another in Boxer Cup colours (looks great btw).

Great bike, but the new, full, price is crazy. Only other bikes I've seen around the £7K mark are second hand with 6-12K miles on.
