Paralever bearing replacement

Apparently I need a new set of paralever bearing as the ones I have are a 'bit tight' ... (18,000 miles on the clock)
Big job?
Can I do it myself with a Haynes and a spare weekend?
Cheers, Lee.

should be fine for a saturday job. You'll need a 30mm socket and a ( 15mm ?? ) hex ( allan key ) socket. Once the final drive unit is off the bearings will easily slide out. Just replace and slot the whole thing back together.
I found the drive shaft had to be realigned correctly but others will disagree. see below.

hope this helps.

12mm allen key, save yourself a lot of grief and buy a set of half inch allen sockets and have a decent breaker bar, anything less, you may get away with it,but i wouldn't hold your breath.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago. Not difficult, just take your time.
I purchased an infrared thermometer from Maplin for £25, similar to one below. I was then able to heat the pivot area with a blow torch to exactly 120C (as recommended by the BMW manual) and they unscrewed with a standard socket drive. No breaker bar required.
I too realigned the drive in phase.
Go for it, bound to be at least £200 for a dealer to do it.

Doing Gus's a few years ago i chewed a 3/8 drive off undoing e'm,and went straight out and bought a 1/2",used a paint stripper gun to heat the job up,cost a tenner from B+Q.

With blow torches and infrared involved how can I say no!?
Thanks for the advice chaps ... I will be back when I have successfully set fire to my bike.
Cheers, Lee.

Sorry to bring this up again but hope to get round to doing this soon.
Can you tell me if this is the part off of Motorworks and if I need anything else?
Swing arm bearing (R850/R1100/R1150) | TRA11729
I assume I need two of them?
My backend has just started 'creaking'

so I better get it sorted - interestingly the noise seems to come from near the rear brake caliper/rear UV joint area rather than where the swingarm joins the frame. Is this right or am I looking at two different issues here
Thanks again.

Yep, back end bearings are paralever bearings, not the swingarm/frame ones.
I'll come up and explain . . .

That makes sense then! Cheers Graeme. I was getting confused ... as always.
