Bike had an oil change at First service - which was roughly 1200 miles ago (bike is now on around 2100 miles).

Is it worth changing the oil again before the trip to France? (5 days of hooning). I will only have time to change the oil tonight or tomorrow night.

I'll be taking a litre for topping up purposes - hope it'll be enough!

Don't change it, let the oil get a little tired, it will help with the running in process.

Don't buy oil in the UK. Much cheaper in France.

Bring us 5L when you come back, will you.

Position bike carefully over mains drain to allow oil to drip straight down thus keeping hands/garage and car interior clean and saving any wasted trips to the local tip. - Top Tip

Except when you drop the sump plug 'cos the oil's hot... that'll be a trip to the dealer instead of the tip then

at the risk of sounding a bit worthy, isn't it naughty chucking oil down the drain - does't it muck up the sewage munching bacteria or something, lead to pollution, global warming and probably abuse of iraqi prisoners?

You should do what I do - put it in an old plastic container and leave it in my brothers yard

RB - to be honest I wouldn't go through the hassle of changing the oil, just keep it topped up and let that motor bed-in.

Far better to change it soon as you get back - clean supply of oil after a few days' concentrated throttle-ringing always seems to do the trick.

My old man used to drain the car oil into an old washing up bowl before chucking down the kitchen gulley back in the days when no one cared and smoking was mandatory (esp. when changing oil)

Just figured that as most S riders are more "mature" the practice was still common place

I'll get me coat...

I put old oil in whatever container is handy and pop it in the wheelie bin. Which reminds me, I've got a washing up bowl that's had oil in it for the last two years. That'll have to go in the ditch at the back of the house.
